A record high temperature of 65 was set at Newark NJ today. This breaks the old record of 64 set in 1947. So far, Newark (65°) and Worcester (54°) have broken their daily record high readings. Over the past hour, a few stations including LGA and NYC saw their temperature drop. Both could still make a run at 60° or above later today. TWCCraig
12 GFS has wind gusts around 80mph for the south shore of LI tonight. 12z NAM even has that too, along with some 90mph wind gusts over the ocean. Wtf?

Wtf? I skeptical of anything over 70 but most coastal south facing places should be in the 50/60's easily. We should have a verifiable hhw event. We should have a verifiable hhw event. Even going conservative with regards to the winds tonight. 70mph wind gusts may be not out of the question. If we get a very good squall to come through, the winds will easily reach 70 and above. Very tough inversion to fight but some local airports are already reporting wind gusts around 40mph. The warm front seem to be stalling out between Newark and Jersey City, for the moment. Winds are turning more SE just ahead of the front. Edit: Looks now to be back south of Newark as of 3pm. 58 with an east wind.
famartin
At 3PM EWR has dropped back to 58 with an east wind. LDJ just a few miles south is 68 with a south wind.
TWCCraig
NAM has 75-80mph winds at 950mb for the south shore of LI tonight. The inversion has much less of an influence at that level than at 925 or 900mb. Don't see too much of a problem mixing those down.

Saw a lot of unknowns also so hard to say how high the gusts were. In any event, expecting at least a good gust front.
