Disco/Nowcast/Observations for SWFE on Monday/Tuesday Snow to ice

Damage In Tolland

Recommended Posts

A nice burst of moderate to heavy snow here during the past 60 to 90 minutes. We're probably closing in on an inch.'

Sleet line is racing east on the ENX CC dual pol image though.

Yes it is. May get shunted south of you but NW CT is going to flip soon. Already at the Hudson.

Looks like the pellets are almost to the Hudson Valley...still a bit west though on dual pol and also confirmed by the ALB 1/2 SN ob. POU still has 1 mi -SN too. PRobably not mixing there yet.

KMGJ is -FZRA so that sleet band is probably pretty narrow before you go to ZR?

Yeah not a ton of sleet obs. Probably just transitional sleet for a few minutes. Further northeast the sleet could last slightly longer with the deeper cold air.

I'm a little worried about the dryslot racing in just as decent snow develops. However, see that stuff near Syracuse? If that can slide through..it may push BOS closer to 2". I think 1-1.5 will do it.

i was just checkin out that stuff that just moved into west central NYS.   watertown area. that may slide ese and hit us.   i hope we can just cover the damn grass.

Thats the 2nd band that some guidance has hitting the pike region and northward later this afternoon/early evening. That could be a decent burst for E MA north of the pike...and into S NH.

It's actually snowing really good here on 84 in West Hartford. Roads are a mess. That change to ZR is going to be unpleasant.

All models suddenly drop temps below freezing by 00z tomorrow night in the interior. That is suspicious and leads me to believe the interior may be below 32 all day....I think models are taking daytime heating too aggressively.

Yeah I agree. Once we go above freezing in this whole setup tomorrow, its unlikely we'd go back below freezing. Its probably a scenario where we never crack freezing all day tomorrow and then finally the sfc warm front eats away at it by Wed morning. I think tomorrow night could be pretty nasty actually in some areas. We'll just have to see how tough the cold air hangs in.

if that 2'nd band of stuff doesn't expand there may be another 7-10 split kinda deal where the first band hits most of CT . but not much further NE and areas like ORH down to PVD/TAN up thru Bos get the 7-10 split and then CNE over to RTE / parts of ne mass get in on round 2.  just throwing it out there
