Lake is keeping things in check here. 35.8° right now. Few high clouds about.

Didn't notice any hoar frost, but I bet it was out there. Didn't stay up long enough for that. I've gotten some good pictures of hoar frost before on mountain ridges.

Lol, LOT posted this yesterday!

Sunny cold morning gave way to sunny, mild day (41F). Still a solid covering areas that are fully shaded, but areas that receive sun were torched away to piles and patches today. When near the busier traffic areas, while still lots of big snowbanks around, lots of brown has returned as well. Hopefully it is extremely temporary.

This mornings frost actually coated the snowpack with sparkle

The air temperature matches the lake temperature.

About 33.5° here. Top of the snow is still frozen.

got down to 32 and now 34 and 35 UGN.... still good full snow cover everywhere  but 1 more day above freezing to endure but it should be pretty cloudy.    low dews and low winds really helped minimize snow loss..

north facing lawns have barely lost any cover.

I got 2-4" in shaded spots.

Clouds have thinned enough, so I can see the brighter stars. Temp ticked down a little. Dewpoint about 29°.

Factoid of the day for FWA:

1963 - All time low temp -18°

1996 - Warmest Feb. temp 70°

Quite a spread between record high and record low for the same day. I wonder if any other day of the year has an 88° spread or greater.

Found a couple more for FWA.

January 20: 68/-22

January 12: 64/-24

March 8: 79/-9

Last post in Feb 2013 discussion thread.  Ready for March and the warmup that comes.  Still 20" of snow on the ground and it isn't going anywhere fast.  One thing I noticed here is that most all backyard birds leave completely for the Winter.  They know the snow comes, gets deep, and stays and their food source is gone. They stayed year 'round in Indiana.

Anyway, dreamin' of birds, warm breezes, puffy clouds, and flowers today!

Mainly crows stay behind north of 45 degrees.

4 of the top 13 years were in the past decade. The 1940's and 1950's were terrible in the Midwest. Funny how many people strut around blabbing about how much snow we used to get compared to today.

Despite the overall disappointment of the storm, I believe DTW broke into the top 10 as well. Will post on it tomorrow.

The 1940s/50s were indeed terrible. We can squabble over who had it better/worse, or who got a freak snowstorm or good winter or two in that timeframe, but the end result is the same. When I FIRST got access to all of Detroits daily data several years back, I spent more time analyzing the 1940s than any other decade (an almost morbid twist for a snowlover like myself), because it stuck out like an absolute sore thumb. The AVERAGE snowfall (27.6") that decade was over a foot BELOW the longterm average. I checked hourly obs, precip record, snow depth records, even local newspapers...and it all jived/matched perfectly. It was simply a terrible 10-30 year period for winters (locally centered on the 1940s). Then when Tim started to post all of his wonderful collections of snow data, you can clearly see that the dearth of snow was seen across the board.

For MKE this snowstorm puts the 2012-2013 winter (DEC-FEB) into second place for wettest meteorological winter ever. MKE has 10.01" of liquid so far during this stretch. Top spot which was the winter of 1973-74 (10.51") looks out of reach.

Chances of the record low water levels in lake Michigan continuing should dwindle.

Wow. I'll have to add up and see what I got.

I'm near 2.2" of water for the last 36+ hours. - if all the snow was 7:1.

COD radar continue to show waves of snow showers moving across Lake Michigan.

Official numbers aren't out yet, but this will likely be 6th or 7th snowiest February at YYZ. 1st was 30.2" in 2008.

Downtown it's not even going to crack the top 40 but that includes all the nonsense from the 19th century.

Better than I thought. 24.3" through 1 am is good for 4th all time for YYZ. Have a chance to crack the top three with these scraps of snow rotating through. Only need 0.6" more for 3rd spot.

With many places seeing accumulating snow without ever getting below freezing, it made me wonder what the most has fallen here. I looked at calendar days with lows at or above 33 and found 7 occurrences of 4" or more since 1948 at CLE. The most being 7.8" on december 2, 1974 where the high was 37 and low was 33. I'm curious what other cities records are.
