Got some nice "mood flakes" (as you people like to call them) coming down now.  Not accumulating at all but looks like a pretty snow-globe in the air.  Got a 6" crust-pack left after the melt-fest late last night.  That absolutely treacherous thin layer of ice finally melted off my road by about midnight last night.  I noticed I could actually put on my brakes and come to a complete stop on the downhill.

Last evening there were several hours of overlap between the wind and above-freezing temps which took care of much of the messiness in the yard.  Most of the snow and ice is now gone and the standing water is mostly dried up.  It's also nice that there is no real cold air with this wind.  It's quite mild(30 degrees @ 9am) considering we are behind a strong front on February 11th.  We should be back in the low 40s by Wednesday.

Even the cold at the end of the week doesn't look too bad.  With bare ground and February sun we should be able to reach the 20s during the day and only drop to at worst 10 at night.

With no snow in sight(could always change... we've averaged about 5 inches after mid February in recent years) I'm sure I'll be in full spring fever mode in a couple weeks.  Bring on the garden and migrant birds.

I'm with you...  Bring on 60Fs and sun...  this is getting old.  My body is sensing these longer days...

Not going to be easy to outdo March 2012!

Snowing right now here...  Still mild out.  Melt wasn't very significant yesterday, with plenty of snow (now turning to ice) on the ground.  If we can break into some sun this week,  should be really nice.

Haha, I guess a heavy machine will do that!

I'll walk out there tomorrow actually see what's left. I figure there's 10" out there. The clipper snow was really compressed on the bottom and the wet froze, so that allowed air pockets to soak up the rain nicely. Cold front looks like it just cleared Cedar Rapids and about to clear Dubuque.

Despite the rain today, there is compressed snow and ice littering parking lots and side roads still. ... and more potholes, lol!

Yeah I am kind of curious to measure the spots I measured after the snow..see what 24 hrs of above freezing plus the rain actually did to the snowpack...as far as compression and melt...hopefully we get a recharge of snow soon..

I actually find February to be the most pleasant winter month.  The constant nuisance nickle-and-dime fluff and bitter arctic blasts taper down a notch and we get more sunshine along with the potential for bigger synoptic snow dumps.

Larger diurnal swings are a good sign that the sun is getting stronger.  Single digits on calm clear nights doesn't feel so bad when it warms to freezing by the next afternoon.  I hardly noticed that it got down to only 3 above a couple nights ago with the fresh snowpack.  What I don't tolerate well is the January crap where it's cloudy and blustery with those kinds of temps.  I'm glad that part of winter is over.

Back to all snow here after some light freezing rain/rain overnight. Temp reached 36 during the night at my house and lost about 3" of snow. Still in excess of a foot on the ground tho and adding water to it will make it bullet proo fas it freezes.

Couple of pics:

This was yesterday morning early before the clouds moved it....showing the depth

Thought this was pretty cool too. Ate at place right on the lake and shows the pretty massive accumulation out on the deck.

Aren't you in your 30's?

I'm averaging 7" in my yard still. Snow is pretty hard this morning after it dipped to 29°. It's funny during when it was raining in the 30s, not much snow melted, but then when it flipped to 40s and dry for 5 or 6 hours that took off 6" of snow.

Had a few snow showers this morning - the wind just drove the flakes into pockets along the snow pack edges.

The sun has come out and the wind has really picked up. Looks like I should be able to maintain a 10-11" snowpack. Now have to hope for replenishment. Hopefully at least one of the three systems over the next week and a half can deliver the goods. Realistically, I can't expect another footer, but perhaps a 6-8 incher.

lol @ you obsessing about this. We're not Ottawa. You're gonna have to live with the possibility replenishment doesn't happen.
