michsnowfreak
This storm is the undisputed benchmark blizzard for the midwest and Great Lakes. I always wondered how hard it was to measure snow what with plenty of OLD snowpack to begin with, not to mention the ferocious winds blowing snow everywhere. Id imagine even the most seasoned weather observer basically had to use their best estimate. Im sure those in SE MI felt kinda robbed looking at heavier totals N, S, E, and W, seeing under 10" snowfall from the storm, but still we had a solid 15" snowpack Jan 27th. Not that that would deter a slew of complaints . It was probably one of those storms that just to EXPERIENCE it was worth everything.
RogueWaves
Big thumbs up to 1:20, but I think that might be from a different event... Maybe not. Can't vouch for that photo, but the age of the sled looks correct. And assuming its somewhere in the region, that leaves only a very small number of events that could've even made a shot like that even possible. Odds favor '78..
