Isotherm
yeah... they were humiliated by the 1/2 inch that fell. Many spots picked up 3" in SE PA which was definitely a nice event in this winterless winter so far.
green tube
Your area must have been the screw zone. Sucks man... based on william's post...... NJ pretty much came in with under 1" long island did a bit better... the majority of the area got under 1.5" we're splitting hairs here on a virtual non-event. these pipsqueak little spits of snow are getting annoying. but hey.... all the more reason to enjoy an actual snowstorm whenever the hell we finally get one. Isotherm
are you down there right now? ...if so, that's the isotherm effect kicking in (where isotherm roams, snow falls). Yeah I've been in SE PA, and can't complain, snow has been nice to me over the years. Only big storm I missed was the footer on Nov 7th in Monmouth - I was in PA for that one. Dsnowx53
27-1 ratio in Phl. Funny how people tried to knock the fact that we would not have those ratios. Are they around? Nope, there too scared to come out and admit they were off. What happened to all those people calling for 50 flakes? I'm happy to admit that the ratios certainly exceeded my expectations. They still weren't as high as they were on Monday's event but they came close. I think the sounding probably underestimated the amount of evaporational cooling that occurred in the mid levels of the atmosphere, thus bringing the snow growth regions down to ideal snow growth temperatures. Having a very dry airmass and being saturated at the same time is ideal for good snow growth. The snow growth started off kinda crappy but as the event went on (as the column became more saturated), the snow growth really improved.
Dsnowx53
Best under two inch storm in recent history IMO. It's nice to see every bit of moisture transfer to the surface so easily, and it was great to whiten up the landscape after such a chilly week. It really ties it all together for those of us that were dealing with brown grass. I'm a bitter cold fan so this week gets an A from me. Same here. A terrific winter's week. Just under 4" of snow and a beautiful landscape. The sunsets at the beach were also stunning this week. Winter and bitter cold just makes nature so much more beautiful. Dsnowx53
What was the final liquid equivalent total for Central Park? .07", I believe. So with their 1.5" of snow, that's a 21:1 ratio. Not as high as the snowy areas were on Monday night, but certainly quite high.

Guest Pamela
.07", I believe. So with their 1.5" of snow, that's a 21:1 ratio. Not as high as the snowy areas were on Monday night, but certainly quite high. I went into the stats for Long Island and I don't think the ratios were as high as initially thought. For example, NWS Upton reported 3.7" of snow Monday on 0.16" liquid for a 23:1 ratio....nearby Bridgehampton had 3.5" of snow on 0.15" liquid...also roughly, 23:1. famartin
The sounding that brought 22:1 ratios back home... very isothermal but in just the right place.

Thanks for pointing that out. I guess the 40:1 + ratios were only initially. So yeah, this storm's ratios matched up Monday's quite well then. Cool. famartin
Here were the Suffolk ratios last night, per CoCoRaHS: 12.5:1 14:1 17.5:1 12.5:1 12.9:1 23.3:1 Average 15.5:1, median 13.3:1. Only one report from Nassau, with 15:1 ratio. Only one report from Queens, with 19:1 ratio. JFK and LGA reported 16:1 and 17.5:1, respectively. Only one report from Staten Island, with 16.7:1 ratio. No reports from Manhattan or the Bronx. NYC had 21.4:1. So overall, across NYC and LI, ratio was between 13:1 and 20:1 last night...
