DAFF
Wonder how this blanket of snow will affect ice accretion later... I'd think it make it tougher to ice up. Actually its a good thing to leave it in place as the rain hits.... Will make it heavy to move but not as slippery unless it is driven over and compacted. Then it can turn into a 1/4" ice sheet. From here on in it is a crap shoot and all in the timing for the AM rush.

frostfern
Got an inch of snow here all within a half hour. By far the heaviest snow I've seen here all winter. Same here. Two and a half inches so far. It's pretty low ratio stuff too. Really wet snow aloft that's freezing on the way down. I wasn't expecting thundersnow out of this. We either get it all or nothing... Unreal
weathergy
I now have accumulated another inch since my last post. It is coming down really hard. Definitely over 2"/hr. This is definitely exceeding my expectations.
frostfern
It looks like a dry slot is moving into my area now. Might not get much freezing rain north of I-96. Mostly a snow event.
michsnowfreak
Whats interesting is that from a visibility standpoint its not nearly the heaviest snow Ive seen...but its accumulating so rapidly!
cyclone77
Ended up with about 0.2" of glaze here before we rose above freezing earlier. Up to 34 now and a lot of the ice on the trees has melted/fallen off. Think we had to have picked up a good 1/2" of precip today.

huronicane
At least 1/2" of sleet earlier today, and between 1/10 and 1/4" of glaze here in Elgin.
Powerball
It is absolutely ripping snow right now. The heaviest in over 2 seasons.
TugHillMatt
Yea. Looks like you're getting dry-slotted. It'll be all over here in another couple minutes. For the 30th time this winter. I have asked many people for a meteorological explanation as to why we get dry slotted, but nobody knows. Most say "bad luck". I don't know. It happens way too often here. TugHillMatt
Yeah, rough winter with all that lake effect last week Hey, I am HAPPY with that. frostfern
Hey, I am HAPPY with that. I would like to understand this phenomenon of the Muskegon area getting dry slotted so often. You should be happy the ice is probably going to miss to the south. It would ruin your nice deep snowpack.
michsnowfreak
The arctic front Feb 10, 2012 had great rates and very low visibility...very close (albeit a whole different setup)....and while Ive seen lower visib... Id say this is the fastest accumulating snow Ive had since Feb 20, 2011.
