Natester
Going to be dryslotted in an hour or two. Really not an impressive ice event. Then again, ice storms in Iowa are rare.
Chitown Storm
some pretty intense radar returns popping east of MS River and west of I-39. Hope those hold together eastbound into LOT. Otherwise this could be a total BUST.

Otherwise this could be a total BUST.Looking like a bust most likely. Look how quickly areas are changing over to rain around Peoria. There are some very strong returns also popping up as you mentioned.

cyclone77
SPC showing some elevated thunder potential later today for eastern Iowa and northern Illinois. Even though this is a pretty low-impact event overall, would be pretty cool to see all 4 phases of precip capped off with a thunderstorm.

turtlehurricane
Spitting and sputtering snow and a little sleet, completely incosequential to surfaces thus far. Upstream radar returns aren't that great but hopefully the column getting more humid allows the precip to get to the surface, most of it is evaporating at this point. Nearing 28 F, feels warm! Hoosier
That Chicago radar image posted earlier was a classic case of the radar beam undershooting the precip aloft. Not very unusual to see when you're dealing with dry low levels.
