lol,  that snow hole is an artifact of the radar angle and how the beam rises as it gets away from the radar site so it picks up virga or echos first away from its location.  as the snow lowers and gets closer to the ground the hole narrows and fills in.  Once we've saturated and start snowing, if you see the same look from west to east, then worry.

Found what I was looking for,

 

This is a map of the reflectivity taken from all elevation angles of the radar to provide a picture of the radar returns at 500m (~1500ft). Note that anything beyond the circles is below the lowest scan of the radar.

if thats accurate, then my flakes are drying right above my head because its not snowing just south of baltimore yet...
