bluewave Posted January 22, 2013 Share Posted January 22, 2013 Last year the lowest temperature was 13 at Central Park. In 2011 it was 6, though that was with snow on the ground. The last time the high failed to reach 20 was January 2009, when one day only reached 16. To find an after colder, you have to go back to January 2004 when one day only reached 15. After that you have to go back to January 1994 when one day only reached 10. In January 1985 there was a day where the high was only 9. Getting a high below 10 was always so rare for us since many of our frigid days set highs right after midnight and temps plunged heading toward sunrise. They are advertising this as "the coldest temps in years" on local media. Pretty sad, growing up in VA we routinely got down to 0-5F every year. These days even a sub 10F is noteworthy there. Technically they're right. Haven't been this cold since 2011 with last year's non-winter. 16.9/0 Took a ride a few miles north of here (Deer Park), down to 15 there.
