NEG NAO
and we know how well the GFS has performed in this time period - no sense in even trying to make any sense out of this...... The GFS hasn't lost the big storm in 7-8 days. Still warm but it tries to track the low up the spine of the apps and we all know how unlikely that it is. Still ends as wrap around snows this run. RowanBrandon
6Z NAM snow map reminds one of the 2/6/10 disaster for NYC http://raleighwx.americanwx.com/models/nam/06znamsnow_NE048.gif That doesn't seem right at all? Is that for Friday?
IsentropicLift
and we know how well the GFS has performed in this time period - no sense in even trying to make any sense out of this...... It's now had the same solution for 4+ runs and it has some model support. The Euro not being one of those models.

So what is considered a storm with "real cold"? Temps havent been much higher than they are now during some of our bigger storms.

MJO812
We went from worrying about rain to nothing lol . What an epic fail. I do think we will see some snow . Enough to coat the ground .

My guess is there must have been some massive blocking involved and more than one low pressure system.

Lets not derail this thread anymore. This event is the perfect example of how cold air suppresses storm tracks. You want to be on the edge of the coldest air. No problem. I was just skimming through the thread. Needless to say, our area could sure use such a snowstorm--or any snowfall for that matter. patrick05
Snowpack here continues to evaporate so an inch would definitely be nice: everything should stay white for a few more days before the warmup occurs..

After running in 10-15F weather for the past few days, 50 will feel awesome. I do agree the snow will be nice, but this cold with a bare ground so far has been a waste.
