Logan11
Never mind 93-94.... Try some winter in the 80's or early 90's for an analog. We had years in there where it got genuinely cold at times, but you could never buy a decent snow storm. 91-92 was pretty ugly that way I think. I've heard that season mentioned 93 or 94 times, yet we are snowing about as prolific a pace as last season.

ORH_wxman
There are similarities to 93-94....EPO/AO good....NAO/PNA bad but the PV is not nearly as strong as it was in 93-94 and the timing has been off on everything, that year it seemed the timing worked out every single event. Overrunning events are often just about getting pieces of energy to eject at the right time...it was a special winter in that regard that most times it worked out. weatherwiz
Maybe we'll be able to muster up something the first week of January when we see some fluctuation in the NAO along with the PNA...NAO goes from positive to negative to positive all in a brief time...sometimes that can be a signal. Logan11
If we get nothing of consequence the rest of this week ad then have that cutter next week, even the snow in the woods here will be largely gone. You can only withstand so many cutters. Mentioned that yesterday, The ultimate kick in the nuts whiff this one cutter on the next one

We had years in there where it got genuinely cold at times, but you could never buy a decent snow storm. 91-92 was pretty ugly that way I think. What some weenies need to understand is that you could have 5 dead ratter winters in a row and it's just a blip on the long term climo radar if it's preceded and/or followed by several snowy years. Just because last year sucked doesn't mean this year won't suck and it doesn't mean next year won't suck either. I lived through a horrific stretch in Boston from mid 80's to early 90's and then we made up for it. I'm still hopeful that we claw our way into above average snow in interior NE. Hopefully that extends out to E NY. I expect decent Feb/March snows.

Logan11
Hope so... It always annoys me when we cant get good snow until the sun angle gets so high. Then you can't hold it well. But hey I'd gladly take a snowy late winter. Beats "Morch" as they say here. Which is not very much after there recent performance, The Srefs and Nam won't affect my thinking, If today's rest of the models don't start making some type of move at all, Its will be time to toss it in up here anyways, Its has been just an outside chance all along for the most part anyways other then a few over amped model runs
40/70 Benchmark
New Combinations=New Weather Pattern could equal same and/or different weather events.I get that......I understand that the atmosphere is utter chaos, and small nuances mean everything....but often times the same is the case with respect to sports, and all ANYONE cares about is the end result...ie whether or not you won or lost.In '94, Tyree didn't catch the ball on his helmet....this year, he is. This year blows...that year was great.

40/70 Benchmark
Welcome to the 80s...minus the big hair. EXACTLY...hence the '84-'85 analogy that I drew.....the pros can whack it to H5 all they want, and reminisce of a year like '94 that was a prolific producer, but give me a sensible weather analog...and '85 does the trick.
