These totals were right in line with the forecast.

Yes it would seem the border counties were still in line but south of there not so much. A good portion of the warning area busted. Here in Carrboro out forecast by NWS was bumped up to 3-5 and we got 0.5 LOL.

In Tryon NC, 39˚ and cloudless sky, almost a "Petty Blue"   At the construction meeting this morning, the grading contractor said they were glad it stopped raining, they had no work to do this past week and were getting ready to build an ark...  unofficial rain total for seven days at his Mill Springs NC shop  8.5 inches

Looking at KGSO's three-day history of observations, it looks like it never fell below 33 here during the storm until the 11 PM and it rose again to 33 right after the storm ended.  It did fall to 27 this morning, though.  The roads probably would have been much worse if the temperature was more in the 29-31 range during the storm, I would guess.  Looks like KGSO picked up 0.73" of liquid equivalent once we changed over to snow.  That was some wet snow!  I ended up with ~3.5" of the white stuff.

My power came back on sometime during the night, which was nice.

Griteater really nailed this one. He posted this yesterday and I have a feeling the maps that come out will look a lot like this one...

Well, except for us chickens who live in the eastern half of that map. Also, a visible satellite shot, which shows where the decent snows fell, also shows what appears to be a very distinct foothills snow shadow.

Also, looks like the French Broad River valley was in the snow shadow.

I'm one of the few who doesn't think this was a total fail. NWS forecasted 2-4 with locally more; ended up with 2 inches. Kids are able to play some outside and the road was snow and ice covered this morning (still is in the shade). I was really hoping for more, but this still get the "monkey off the back" in terms of getting some snow. We still have more time to get a storm thats more widespread and doesn't have to have a perfect setup.

Yeah, at least it was something and we are finally on the scoreboard. I hope the models are right about the setup being good heading into February for more snow. The players on the field finally got a victory, but it's still a losing season so far.

I would be shocked if we did not see another winter weather event in Feb or March. But I think the rest of Jan will be very dry.

Maybe, the general pattern needs to change to give us the higher chances of winter storms. Many have stated February as this time. We actually got luck to get this storm; even if it did let down a lot on this board.

Snow is melting this afternoon, but the roads are still a mess and should freeze back over tonight. Got just over 5 inches here which is more than I was expecting for once. Areas just to the north by a few miles got close to a foot of snow. Elevation plays a huge part in acculumations around the area as it always does. Luckily this was a short duration event or it would have been a disaster. There are alot of trees and limbs down across the area, as expected with a wet cement falling out of the sky. One friend I know had a tree fall on his truck yesterday and it is a total loss. Tons of people had to abandon there cars because they just couldn't get no where. Cars were scattered on the roads and alot of parking lots were filled up everywhere. It changed over so fast and the roads got covered within a few minutes. Even the 6 plus inches of rain this week and warm temps couldn't stop the bombardment. Heaviest snow I've ever seen, including the two snowstorms in 09/10. First thundersnow ever for me which is a rare thing. Just the evening before WJHL and WCYB weren't really calling anything for the Tri-Cities and I knew this could have been a mistake and it was. Everybody was caught off guard. A WSW should of been issued for the Tri-Cites by MRX but it was a tough system to forecast for. I wouldn't want to have the job.

I hope everybody that got screwed gets another chance this year.
