famartin
ALL who observe for the Mount Holly WFO area: expectations. For the OBS later tonight through Noon Wednesday... we'll be looking for snow accum totals, ice pellet accum totals and the combo; as well as glaze thickness on limbs. The scenario should be mostly snow poconos-far nw nj tapering to freezing rain/freezing drizzle during the day Wed; Further south...a mish mosh of rain starting out then over to sleet/freezing rain in the 05z-10z time frame back to freezing rain by 12z and then just plain rain after sunrise Wed before tapering to drizzle midday. the HWOPHI has our current thinking. Thank you in advance for your very helpful observations. wd/phi 110P EST 1/15/13 If you live in Mt. Holly-land, Walt Drag would prefer you posted to the above criteria (and obviously it would probably help if you posted in the thread on the Philly subforum: http://www.americanwx.com/bb/index.php/topic/38850-snowsleetfreezing-rain-mess-obs-tuesday-nightwednesday-115-162013/ )

Snow_Miser
18z NAM has me with 4" of snow tonight!?!?!?! Snow_Miser
FWIW, the 12z ECMWF total accumulated frozen precipitation has 0.5-0.75 inches of frozen precipitation from Somerset County to Sussex County NJ.
SnowGoose69
18z NAM has me with 4" of snow tonight!?!?!?! (assuming 10:1 ratios) Higher resolution map here: http://www.meteo.psu.edu/~fxg1/NAMSFC4US_18z/snow60.gif The 18z NAM still has all levels minus the surface below 0C til 10Z or so, a decent amount of QPF is shown before that and remember the NAM can tend to be too slow advancing precipitation in. If thats correct I would not be surprised if we get a several hour period of snow in areas that nobody is expecting snow.
Allsnow
Gfs seems colder for the city to start, from the 12z run. Looks messy just to the nw of city
IsentropicLift
Gfs seems colder for the city to start, from the 12z run. Looks messy just to the nw of city It moves the 850 0c line north of the area 6 hours faster than the NAM. Makes for a big difference. It also has about half the total QPF.
