Flaking Our Way Into MLK Weekend 1/17-1/18

what is reaching the ground on radar, messenger are you snowing or what?

Yeah, we're dusting over now. Winds have increased pretty substantially in the last 15 minutes as well.   I'm hoping for maybe 1" here, maybe if we get lucky 2.  Phil has a legitimate shot of doing well in an OES band later

The first few echoes are starting to show in SE CT per Radarscope.  We'll see if that's able to dust up the I95 corridor.

HRRR pulling it back... now more in line with RAP... and almost exactly matches the BOX map, except maybe an extra 1-3" in the outer cap:

quick hitter and best hours 3-5am, if true parts of Cape will see 1"/hr:

What's the difference between the Dev1 and the Primary?  I posted the primary for the same time above.  I don't follow it, assumed that the primary was the "op" run?

edit see you post, your in extreme south part of plymouth right along the coast, right?

Pretty much. The north winds have picked up temp is dropping. It's tough to tell from the radar if the band is going to setup right along the canal or more down towards Phil.

Glad it's starting to get going down there....

Dunno about fav. countrry, but the Tatra mountains were cool.  7k feet peaks. It's a range near he northwest end of the Carpathians. Booming ski resort there at Zakopane. I like to go places where all the American tourists don't go. Wealthy Russians like it there a lot. They get a some British.

Lots of good goulash and Pierogis. But a Zakopane has two McDonalds also with wifi. ;)

That's not that bad really it's 4 hours down to the Gulf/Texas.

favorite country on the trip?

Everything starting to cover here now, the real snow has begun.

LOL on the goulash and Pierogis.  We're going to try to do London this spring at some point which is why I was asking about the flight time, lots of British there.

Starting to see an impressive band pop just to my east.

Searching for flakes in Lynnfield. I've got nothin.

Earthlight you're up here?

I actually hadn't noticed, I did that by mistake.

HRRR-Dev1 started 11/24/12, experimental and running off some other NOAA supercomputer.

I have no idea if there's any data on verification comparisons... from the posts, it looks like HRRR-Dev1 is a little tighter with the gradient tonight, and probably more realistic given the dry air.

Box:

1255 am update... Radar echoes are blossoming across the cape and islands very early this morning. Observations in this region were now just beginning to drop as the steadier snow was beginning to fall. While a few snow showers and flurries may make it into the bos-pvd corridor...the threat of accumulations will likely remain confined to the far southeast New England coast give the amount of dry air working into the region. We did go ahead and issue a Special Weather Statement for the cape...mvy and bid for snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches overnight. Also...increased snow amounts a tad in the New Bedford to Plymouth locations for one half to 2 inches of snow. Winter Weather Advisory continues for Nantucket for 2 to 4 inches of snow.

Btw i have been to all those countries many times and the Czech Republic is by far the nicest, Prague is beautiful. If i was you it is worth going there after London for a few days. It is a 2 hour flight from London. I actually think it is much nicer than London, less to see but a much nicer country.

I've heard that, I may hit you up for some information.

wxniss I like the Dev version better, fits what is going on.  Keeps this band just to my east, I get my dusting but will struggle to get an inch or two.   I don't see any reason to think that's wrong, figured a D-2, think probably 1/2"

Most of the cape should do 2-4" anyway, and someone out there may be able to pull off a 5-6" or even a little more in a narrow OES band.

Lot's of British and just about every other nationality from the former Empire..a very international city.  I enjoyed it there..been ten years now since I was there. West End is cool ...like it better than Broadway area in NYC. Gonna be a lot  ore expensive than Poland. Poland was a huge buy.

Yes Prague is kind of magical. It saw no destruction to speak of in WW II so all of its historic architecture from medieval times to now is intact. Not too expensive either compared to like London or Paris.

It was darn chilly there on this trip, but beautiful in the Old Town Square with the Christmas Market and tree, etc. I wanted to get back there for a few days en route to Poland. Another gem in the Czech Republic is Karlsbad (Karlovy Vary).

I took the back roads across Silesia and northern Moravia then to Krakow. That was like going back in time.

Yup..up for the weekend. Woman. You know how it is.

Pretty nice weekend to be up here, Saturday should be gorgeous.  Does Lynnfield have any snow left?

That's what a buddy did last year - Poland etc.  Said it was a ton cheaper than going to the normal tourist spots.

20 more miles would have been nice, not translating those echoes well NE yet. Hopefully they can arc onto Phils part of the Cape.

There's a decent amount of snowpack left here. Comparatively, at least, to the brown tundra back in NJ.

We're headed into Boston tomorrow...the brewery, fenway, red lantern, night club...the whole shebang. Glad if feels like winter somewhere.

Looks like the RAP had a decent handle on things at least the past few runs. I told a friend of mine on the east end of LI to expect some light snow around 130-200 based almost solely on that, turned out pretty good.

It was a little aggressive up here but about right in keeping the dividing line at the canal.  The HRRR Dev in this case seems to have been the best all around.

Fun time of the year, there's a bar not far from fenway that's pretty new, lot of fun.  give me a minute trying to remember the name.

Guys, last night was a disaster. I cleaned up what I could but that was ridiculous. If HFD or ORH or BOS was getting 2 or 3 inches of snow this place would be just as active. Let's let the guys on the Cape enjoy the snow... they've been screwed a lot lately.

The HRRR Dev did well in the end.   Up dealing with a sick kid... can see the OES help on the super res on radarscope.  That may help the cape guys later.  I've got about .8 here now, it's starting to blow all over the place and there's nothing to it, very fine powdery snow.  I may come close to an inch, the best was too my east.  has to be some solid 2-4" amounts there.

everything is covered including the roads here.
