EastCoast NPZ
Feb 2003? It was 5F that Sunday morning. By far the coldest snowstorm in my lifetime.
mitchnick
check out this clip from 2/6/10 look how close the rain gets to DCA/BWI I know it's overdone, but still looks pretty cool not to mention the dreaded dry slot closing in but never getting to us
Ian
2/5-6/10 was a slopfest till the ULL.. Lots of trees came down in the city.. I got drenched walking around in it through the early part. I believe there was an issue with the DCA liquid.. I'd have to try to dig it up but it is low.

Ian
This is the worst of the top 20 for DC and it had to have been like a rain to snow event. The accum is spread over both days with lows of 32 for both so would have been a really gross event either way. 3/27-28/1891 - 12" off of 2.44 4.9:
wasnow215
But look at when it was. A foot of snow around here in almost April??? Weather Channel would have named it Zenith.
WVclimo
Thanks for posting these, Zwyts. I don't remember any sleet in '83. I was ~350' elev about 10 miles west of BWI. Long duration, loud thunder, vivid lightning, 3-4"/hr rates and wind, so I may have missed the pellets.

mitchnick
I actually had half an hour of Sleet with that storm.. I didn't remember that, but I guess I'm not surprrised I used to go to school down that way and I know there was always a diff between Severna Park and north of Jumpers Hole Rd
wasnow215
I remember living in NJ and how it seemed like that snow would never end. If I remember correctly the winter was fairly mild until that storm in '83 with not much snow. '83, '93, '03, ....'13????

I've never seen anything like it before or since.
Ian
are you sure on that precip total for pdii? i see 1.58 for 15-18 with 0.02 on the 14, but lwx doesnt 'count' that as a day of the storm: http://www.erh.noaa....nts/snohist.htm edit: hmm, precip for the mo doesnt add up to lwx total.. tho everything else does. Ian
Yeah I think the total I have for the 16th is wrong. Just weird that everything else adds up. Will have to check the original file but IAD has over 2" on that day.
Ian
well, at least it was there in the original threadex file. where do you get your numbers again?
TUweathermanDD
PDII was interesting, huge totals for some that didn't get as much sleet. Phin 37" was the big winner, 33" here and over 2.5" of liqev. What a storm, longer duration and had it all, some TSSN, my first experience with it where I was more aware, was alive during 96 but very young, and don't remember if 1/25/2000 had any TS, Matt? Ian? Ian
the commute storm Jan 26 2011 has miserable ratios right? DCA got 1.52 for 5".. Some was liquid but that was a gross snow.
TUweathermanDD
DCA got 1.52 for 5".. Some was liquid but that was a gross snow. Really weighed down the trees in the evening part. Around 1.1" for the 8" I got that evening, didn't do the liquid for the 3" in the AM. Btw, there wasn't any tssn with 12/19 and 2/10 right?
