uncle W
No Feb 2007? it did not have a 15 day period that had 10" of snow and an average temperature of 32.0 or lower...February 1983 and 2006 didn't make the list...
kevbo81
just goes to show you what isotherm was pointing out the other day; a lot of times, we get our snow in the heart of a period of cold, not shortly after it sets in or at the end...thanks for the work on this one
tamarack
Run 1961 a day earlier (Jan 20-Feb 3) and the temp drops to 16.4, high temp 29, but snowfall also decreases 5.9" to 16.6". Since this interval would include the final 5.5" of a 9.9" storm and the first 6.0" of a 17.4", there's no good number for biggest storm. It would be the coldest of the list (squeaking below 1979) and the only one remaining below 32 throughout. I'm sure there are pre-1940 examples as well, but this is an excellent list. I went snowfall first and temperature second...60-61 was great but the winter never recovered from the big thaw the end of February and early March...By the time it got stormy again temperatures were marginal at best in the city...Where you lived it was not over till May... True. Our last snow of real depth fell on bare ground 3/23 and was a surprise, 6" at my HS at about 450' and closer to 12" at home, near 700'. Most fell in 4 hr, and we got a good look at the elevational changes, as the buses didn't run so we (about 10 of us) walked the 5 miles home. Then several 2-4" events into mid-April, and even some sleety rain at 40F on 5/27. My two best NNJ winters were 60-61 and 66-67, each with a bit over 100" and snow into April plus a cold cold May. 60-61 was colder and had much taller snowpack, and thus ranks #1 for any winter prior to my moving to N.Maine.
