burgertime
RDU is on the edge for this one. As it's pulling OTS RDU might get in some good snow.
msuwx
Some QPF make it into southeastern-most and eastern TN.... I bet the oft-reliable snow maps even put some on the ground in parts of SC and even N GA.
RaleighWx
ECMWF is 4-8 for western NC/NW SC. An area of 2-4 NC piedmont, upstate SC, extrem N Ga, central/eastern TN, northern Ms/Al. An area of 1-2 just south of there.

Shawn
My area Lexington/CAE is RIGHT on the edge even on the 12z Euro to see a little something also. Canadian looks slower with the precip and warm unless my maps aren't updated.
deltadog03
Still looks like a rain event for me, but will have to see what happens on future runs. IMO the H5 look HAS to improve for any/most to see snow.
Marion_NC_WX
Compare the 500mb vorticity of the 12z GFS and Euro... The Euro is faster and more compact...just barely opening up at 114 where as the GFS is a bit slower and completely open. That's a big difference at least IMBY at 114. tnweathernut
Euro LR anyone? Does it build any ridging in Greenland and keep the PNA?
msuwx
Euro LR anyone? Does it build any ridging in Greenland and keep the PNA? Very cold shot still there for week of 21st.
BristowWx
Very cold shot still there for week of 21st. GFS had NAO going pos...that would spell a quick cool down and bad storm track
Jon
Euro LR anyone? Does it build any ridging in Greenland and keep the PNA? NAO going + but in the very long range 240+ NAO going neutral (IMO) and ridging building toward greenland if you want to believe the very last hour of the Euro, +PNA kept throughout the run. Cold Rain
NAO going + but in the very long range 240+ NAO going neutral (IMO) and ridging building toward greenland if you want to believe the very last hour of the Euro, +PNA kept throughout the run. weatherlover
The latest cfsv2 weekly forecast looks incredibly cold right through the first week in February...starting to think this upcoming cold shot could be more sustained than any thing we've seen lately
RUNNAWAYICEBERG
GFS had NAO going pos...that would spell a quick cool down and bad storm track i think its a little misleading though....the huge vortex extends into the N atlantic so while it looks like a +nao, there is ridging N and W of it. Stormsfury
The map is more of an east based -NAO. not terrible, but not great, but that 500mb depiction verbatim is an absolute frigid depiction in the Eastern US.

Carvers Gap
12z Euro is cold and colder for this run. +PNA driving the pattern and an east based NAO as Stormsfury stated. Frigid. It does have the look of cold that will pinwheel around a vortex somewhere in eastern Canada. Now, it will be interesting to see if something can work under that ridge out West....or if the northern stream can pull off something. If the cold comes down in chunks as many have mentioned...I think we pull something off. Too much and everything is sent to Cuba. Might even be that KTRi scores on a clipper. Too far out to tell. Things look interesting at least for about a ten day period.

strongwxnc
Sure is impressive.. That .8 would be a nice hit for the local area to my east. Also, the system looks to enter at a great time of the day. burgertime
Impressive that Gastonia andCharlotte see about .8 that should be all snow I figured just looking at the SFC that CLT might be a winner on this run. Snow maps from accupro should be fun to look at.
CAD_Wedge_NC
Impressive that Gastonia andCharlotte see about .8 that should be all snow Guys, the models will change many times between now and then. They might lose the storm, only to bring it back. It could trend warmer or colder. It is still early in the game, but I have to say that I am starting to get a little more interested when someone says 0.8 QPF all snow and inside 5 days...... Now, if we can get this inside 72 hours, I'm all in.
DopplerWx
Well you gotta love that we have this possible solution on the table only 4/5 days out instead of 7/8. Will be fun to watch this week.

CAD_Wedge_NC
Artic Air plus possible snow pack here in the NC Piedmont = There's something we have not seen in quite a while....... You can easily shave about 10 degrees off the highs and lows that would normally be seen without a snow-pack.
mackerel_sky
Would the temps be cold enough before this system comes in? Or would it have to be strong enough to pull cold air in?
SeVa
Alright thanks. I am too cheap to pay for AccuPro. Can anyone tell me how much qpf it is spitting out near Norfolk?
