hm8
HRRR vs RAP....very similar placement of the "best" snow but RAP is bigger. I'd lean HRRR.
B-Rent
I don't know that the temperature will drop before we lose all the precip here. Sent from my Galaxy S III on Tapatalk!

IWXwx
Rain about to move in here, but still 37. Let's how fast the surface temp drops once precip begins.
Hoosier
Just went out...accretion building especially on colder surfaces. Slid a little walking back from the car.

dmc76
37-38 degrees across my area. Still a good 4 hrs or so away from the main precip shield. Temps need to start dropping
blue60007
Maybe. I'm kinda surprised there's no advisory. I'm surprised as well. I guess we will see if that changes with the afternoon packages.
Hoosier
I'm surprised as well. I guess we will see if that changes with the afternoon packages. Maybe because there's not much road impact yet, though that could start changing pretty soon.
IWXwx
Maybe because there's not much road impact yet, though that could start changing pretty soon. From Mike Ryan at IND a little over an hour ago: Here's a 140 pm update...getting a number of reports from obs and spotters/HAMs of freezing rain falling across the Wabash Valley. Radar analysis suggests that we may have some sleet mixing in as well, and expect this to become more prevalent over the next 2-3 hours as the warm air aloft begins to cool. We have checked several road sensors across west central Indiana and they are currently running in the 35 to 38 degree range even with air temps of 30-32 degrees. So while some light icing on roadways is likely to develop, the warm road surface temps should help to keep roads mainly wet. Beginning to see precip transition to snow about 50 miles or so west of the Indiana state line near Mattoon and Effingham IL. Should begin to see snowflakes mix in across the Wabash Valley after 330-4 pm. For Indy metro...temps still hovering at 36-37 and expect precip to fall in the form of rain through about 4 pm before sleet begins to mix in. Thunder Road
We had a period of mist and snow (very fine flakes though) from about 12:45 to 2:00. Just enough to put a dusting on some elevated surfaces.
DAFF
One thing I find interesting is the amount of people who don't understand the freezing rain terminololgy. I have so many times been called out to treat extensive freezing rain. To drive onsite to see all the sleet. Sleet is funny for it can take some time and copious amounts of salt to melt because of the high water content of the material. One thing is for certain if freezing rain is in the forecast you better pretreat with salt and heavy... Once the block of ice is formed is is often very difficult and time consuming to find asphalt again.

Harry
Started out briefly as freezing rain but recently went to a mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow.
Fickle Heights
Just drove from Indy to Lafayette. Besides ponding, I didn't encounter any slick spots on the interstate or side streets.
Thunder Road
Pretty interesting banding feature running through Hebron-Valpo-Michigan City. Big flakes coming down in it, which combined with fog is lowering visibility to probably 1/2 mile or less.
Central Illinois
Nothing to write home about here. I would say this area barely even had .1" of ice Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk!

Hoosier
Why does it seem like warm layers aloft linger longer than expected? I honestly can't remember the last winter event here where a warm layer got eradicated quicker than progged.
Harry
Has finally switched over to all snow here. Nothing too heavy though. Ground/grassy areas has whitened up a bit thanks to the earlier sleet fest and a little snow.

Harry
About a half inch of snow here covering the ground. Looks like the sleet was a blessing as it helped to keep the snow from melting as quickly.. Roads are gonna be a big nightmare unless they salt. Our ground is going to freeze up nicely today, so if we do manage to get any snow, it will lay easily.
