Well Cyclone if the earlier Euro models are right you and I will likely not be happy again early next week, provided the phasing on that possible system works out.... another brief warm up/storm/rain/back to chilly weather....  wash rinse repeat, its been the pattern of the Winter around here locally, cant got against the trends....

avg. snowfall around here is right around 31" and we aren't even to 1/3 of our seasonal avg at a little over 8"   absolutely depressing

lol at you guys. I wish my magnet worked at fending off snowcover-depleting torches. Hell, Id even give you a few of my 2-4" falls if I could not lose my snowcover. Today was the worst of all...torch hits in the overnight hours...go to bed with full snowcover, temps rise and stay in mid-40s all night to deplete snowcover...then wake up to winds and falling temps and dirty snice piles. Funny thing though its just showing how I need to live in a place that sees Nov-Apr snowcover like the U.P. I get grouchy seeing grass, yet here we are not to mid-Feb and once we get just 11 more inches of snow and 11 more days of snowcover and we have already hit climo for the entire snow-season.

Lol what do you do during non winter months?

This does not have to do with snow in the least, but the ugly brutal dry winter wind.  This evening as I was walking to my car after a Bucks game (I know, bless my heart), the wind was so brutal and dry my eyes stung like I have never felt before.  It was such a ***** that I threw my glasses on the ground and broke the lenses.  Enough was enough, I so much want this winter to end unless it's going to bring another decent snowstorm or two.

I don't think you're cut out for Midwest winters. Best to call cromartie, pack up the PT Cruiser and head for Florida.

Best GFS run, post truncation, of the winter. Soak it up...until the 18z takes it all away.

Lol, you so called it. Went from showing over a foot of snow next week to maaaaybe a couple inches.

psst.. About a week ago i sneaked in in the middle of the night and stole your snow magnet. Also made a trip to sne late last night and stole one from there as well. :weenie: Even grabbed some snow geese along the way. :devilsmiley:

Why did you drop the magnet off in Allegan? They steal enough snow as it is! :P

Ouch. Seriously. :(

Yeah, the wind today was awful. Especially since it kept blowing the lake enhanced snow inland. With the fast jet, that has been happening a lot the past couple years.

Do you have much snow left? It is unreal how much of our DENSE snow vanished this weekend. Full sunshine Friday and Saturday, rain and 40s yesterday.... We lost half of our snowpack.

Hah. It is pretty similar to East Coast winters. You wait and wait for a storm. Except on the east coast you wait for the one footers, while in the Midwest you wait for the 3 to 6 inchers. That is why I am reminded to be thankful for the lake and 5 or so times it really benefits us.

Yeah this late in the winter it seems hard to go against trends.  Oh well, this makes 2 horrific winters in a row.  I guess we've paid our dues for the great winters we saw the previous 4 winters.  I'd sacrifice any surplus winter and take a string of 10 average winters if it means we don't have to suffer through another batch of trash like we've seen the last few.

About two or three inches of snow, but there are some bare areas, with the mounds of dirty snow looking like mini icebergs (obviously scant three inch icebergs).

Meh winter ad a whole is a lot more harsh in the midwest. We (DTW at least) even get more 6"+ storms with all the fillers of nickels and dimes in between too. Its the 12"+ storms they own on. Winter in between such storms is probably not very fun on the coast. Id imagine itd be a good climate for the winter storm enthusisst who cant handle the daily grind of a midwest winter and doesnt mind lots of sunny snowless winter days some 5-15F above freezing.

Still...we are doing a s**t ton better than the rest of the region! in GR, before the torch, we had 11 inches of snow depth. After the torch and an inch or two today, we are at 6 or 7 inches here. I'll gladly take it! Especially after going home this weekend and watching NE Illinois' biggest snowfall of the season more or less melt on Sunday due to warm temps. Plus, once the front plows through this weekend, we will get some good LES.

I would say that is about what we have..maybe a little more? The rain last night probably soaked through and melted all the lake effect fluff that was beneath. It is just a huge difference from what we had 24 hours ago. You are correct though.

By the way, if you haven't had the experience of Lake Michigan in winter, I strongly encourage you to come check it out. It is pretty cool to climb around on the glacier (just be VERY careful). This year isn't as impressive due to the warmer January, but it is still a neat experience.

Not everyone's snow pack around here melted away! Got as much as you do. :)

There's a noticeable gradient to the south and southwest setting up around here.

More of a praise than a complaint. Paid the last of the insane gas bills. Jan always seems to be the highest but as we head into Feb and Mar a cold sunny day does a great job @ heating the house a tad through solar radiation. Esspecially the rooms with southern windows. We have turned the corner. Now lets get a kick ass snowstorm to pass the time until the sirens and lightning.

The weather today is utterly depressing lol.  Dark gray skies, gusty winds, yet no precip anywhere around.  That combined with the never changing brown landscape, and no snow anywhere in the next 7+ days is a downer.

So far this winter we've had 3 snowfalls of 1" or more..

Dec 20....3.7" (the "big one" of this "winter")

Jan 30 ...1.2"

Feb 2....1.0"

I'll trade.

I've had 2:

1/1 - 1.2"

2/2 - 1.2"

Maybe March 3rd will give me another 1.2" to blow around. I haven't seen 6" on the ground since the GHD storm, and that was mostly ice pellets.

There was a ton of shrinkage but I don't think that much melted.  The old snow is just very compressed now, like 4:1 ratio.
