Winter '12/'13 Complaint Thread Part 2

Hmm, shows me getting more than Athens' seasonal snowfall of 13-14" in two weeks, so I'll take it.

Oh, and to complain, it's the middle of February, I'd rather freeze my but off walking to class at 7:30am as opposed to waking up to 50 degrees and sunshine which seems like has happened several times since I've arrived down here.

I know from first hand experience that words are of little comfort when winter refuses to deliver the goods. But things do turn around. I've had the worst luck of anyone on this board over the last 5 years, and it happened for me. So for sure it can happen for you.

I got a feeling one of those GFS fantasy land ATL-FWA tracking storms is in the cards. Help LAF and ORD out at the same time. :)

Right on Mike. Some day it'll turn around.

I am sure someone gets shafted in the region (not everyone), best guess, those who have already been getting shafted unfortunately :(

Way to kick us when we're down Stebo.

:P

:cry::axe:

That's amazing. As if the GFS knows.

Though I see a Wyandotte sucker hole. Tossed.

still taking things way too seriously in the complaint thread, stebo?

You are the one making a silly statement. I mean how are we to know when you are serious or trolling, especially this winter when you have banged the drought drum all winter, which is why I took what you said literally.

You can't make this stuff up.  My last goal for the winter is to have at least one quick bout of legit heavy snow.  We have yet to have greater than 25dbz return snow this winter if I recall correctly, and that's technically the big element of the winter that's missing.  If it fails to materialize, I'll probably be posting on here again.

The weather today is utterly depressing lol.  Dark gray skies, gusty winds, yet no precip anywhere around.  That combined with the never changing brown landscape, and no snow anywhere in the next 7+ days is a downer.

So far this winter we've had 3 snowfalls of 1" or more..

Dec 20....3.7" (the "big one" of this "winter")

Jan 30 ...1.2"

Feb 2....1.0"

I'm counting down the days until meteorological spring. Not foolish enough to think we're done with snow but I'd rather not bother unless it's something over a few inches. Small snowfalls have a harder time sticking around with the increasing sun angle and we're not shooting for some record snowy winter or other high number so what's the point? March 2012 set the bar very high as far as warmth so it would be foolish to expect anything like that again but hoping for some warm periods this year.

I can't decide which crappy winter I like better, this or last. Snowfall has been virtually identical season to date.

Totals (Season to Date through February 12 at CLE)

2011/2012 - 31.2"

2012/2013 - 31.1"

Last year's snow fell in much more exciting heavier bursts. This year's snow has been much lighter. This winter has featured much longer snow cover, but more pronounced torch melt offs. I think I'd hedge towards last winter being a little bit better from a winter's perspective and that's saying a lot. We only had 7" more fall the rest of last season after today, so hopefully this year proves a little more fruitful. I would not be happy with another -30" snowfall departure at season's end.

Interestingly enough, the recent snow deficits have been large enough to now make the last 8 winter's average snowfall a few inches below normal. So any talk about making up for some of the good winters in the 2000s can be put to rest, at least here.

lol at you guys. I wish my magnet worked at fending off snowcover-depleting torches. Hell, Id even give you a few of my 2-4" falls if I could not lose my snowcover. Today was the worst of all...torch hits in the overnight hours...go to bed with full snowcover, temps rise and stay in mid-40s all night to deplete snowcover...then wake up to winds and falling temps and dirty snice piles. Funny thing though its just showing how I need to live in a place that sees Nov-Apr snowcover like the U.P. I get grouchy seeing grass, yet here we are not to mid-Feb and once we get just 11 more inches of snow and 11 more days of snowcover  and we have already hit climo for the entire snow-season.

psst.. About a week ago i sneaked in in the middle of the night and stole your snow magnet. Also made a trip to sne late last night and stole one from there as well. :weenie: Even grabbed some snow geese along the way. :devilsmiley:
