Ellinwood
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/Racy/ 1970-2013 Sounds like a great guy who was in his dream job before his life was cut short.
thewxmann
This is really sad news. He was a member of the old Eastern WX forums and we (the severe wx regulars) had some great discussions with him on the forums. He was a very intelligent guy, and was always willing to engage even with the newbs like me. I will always cherish and appreciate the moments I had to interact with him and learn from him. It is truly a loss for the weather community that his life could be cut short so soon. RIP, Jon Racy. You will be missed.

baroclinic_instability
Incredibly sad. Way too young. I never met him, but you almost feel like you know these guys from reading their discussions. At North Platte I was on shift during multiple conference calls he led during severe events. He always struck me as being incredibly polite, well spoken, and mild mannered. Of course he was a severe weather genius as well.
Clinch Leatherwood
Terrible, my age. I faintly remember him from the old board, sad story but thanks for letting us know.
HurricaneJosh
Wow-- what a bummer. It is always so sobering to get news like this. He seemed like a cool member of the wx community. What was his name on Eastern?

Turtle
Though I don't remember him, several of my colleagues went to Penn State with him. One of our leads was his roommate there and they graduated together. Sounded like a great guy. And agreed, cancer is terrible. --Turtle
MichiganLion
Unfortunate and sad to hear (I knew he was sick) --- he was a very good guy, knew him from my time at Penn State (he was a couple years ahead of me).
Stebo
Sad to see this, especially at such a young age.
brad1551
Very sad to hear this news but look on the bright side. Jon can see all severe weather events with a front seat view where he is. In times like this pray for the family that they receive strength.
andyhb
Terribly too early to go, condolences to his family and the SPC, he was a great forecaster and just all around severe guru. I'll always remember when he started the 01z convective outlook for 4/27 with this: ...A HISTORICAL AND DANGEROUS OUTBREAK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORM ANDTORNADOES CONTINUES ACROSS PARTS OF THE TN VALLEY AND SRN STATES... Chicago Storm
RIP. Sad to hear. Looks like he enjoyed what he did and he was able to reach his dream job. His last watch was issued for this area... Gonna miss seeing "RACY" at the end of outlooks and watches.

OceanStWx
What a shocking and sobering thing to see this morning when I headed over to SPC's site to look at some SREF graphics. Everyone has their favorite forecasters, at WFOs and national centers alike. Racy was one of the good ones.
