This was quite an interesting snow event, with bursts of very heavy snow squalls and long periods with no snow and even sunshine.  The meat of the event coincided perfectly with the coldest part of the day, from about 9PM to 9AM.

I measured 18 cm around 10AM but at least half of that has already melted.

Here's a video of thundersnow that I took in Jerusalem:

An excellent video taken by my friend Yishai Fleisher in Neve Daniel just outside Jerusalem (elevation near 1000 m, about 200 m higher than Jerusalem):

Will post my pics soon, but here are two nice selections of pics:

Awesome pics. Seeing Jerusalem covered in snow is one of the most amazing sights.

Ok guys, here are my pics from the storm: https://www.icloud.com/photostream/#A6G4TcsmGxhVvG

And don't forget about this album that I posted earlier: https://www.icloud.com/photostream/#A65qXGF1u8KHT

Feel free to pass those links around.

I had a blast covering this for you guys. In the end we received a maximum reported 18 cm (about! 8 inches!)

The number 18 happens to equal the word Chai or "Life" in it's Hebrew numerical form. And man, this snow storm was the life! One of the best snow events I have ever witnessed.

I hope you enjoy the pics, and stay tuned for some incredible videos soon!

This map link is interesting, as the storm moved into Iraq on Thursday, very mild air moved north into regions east of the Caspian Sea (note the 20s C in Uzbekistan north of Iran-Afghanistan). That is setting off a blizzard across the steppes further north as the mild air hits the Siberian high.

(the map time is 12z GMT and this site usually updates at 1430z to 1445z ... if you want to see more global maps, bookmark this site

European maps appear for every 6h with the same lag time to updates ... the eastern Asia maps are timed for 06z so you can see today's map six hours earlier than for the Middle East region.  ).

Here is a playlist of some of the best videos that I took during the storm. They certainly can't fully capture what it was like being there in person, but they get a pretty good glimpse of how intense some of the snow fall really was. I hope you enjoy them!

And here's to another snow storm happening like this again in Jerusalem this winter! :)
