Damage In Tolland
Many places gusted to or over 50 mph last nite. With a weak fropa. I think that signals something for next week
ORH_wxman
Active qpf wise? Yeah it looks like we could have a good chance at a storm after the cold somewhere around D10-11...obviously that is getting out there in time, but the ensemble support for it is there. ORH_wxman
I think he meant the mid week snowstorm Mid-week storm is like 0.25" of qpf. Not that impressive on the Euro but its cold at the sfc. Looks like glazing for many that are too far south for snow. The qpf really isn't that relevant at this stage. IT could end up being a lot more...we don't know. Ginx snewx
A wind advisory would not have verified in any of BOX's CT zones. Highest gust was 45 at BDL, and highest sustained was 26 MPH at BDL. Wind advisory criteria is 46-57 MPH gusts or sustained 31-39 MPH for one hour. well they have no stations in this part of the state but I saw a 53 in Thompson and multiple reports of gusts above
HM
I'd rather the torch continue if the PV is going to come southward like a buzz saw, kill any s/w and then move away after the ascension of my scrotum is complete.

klw
Somehow we got a fresh inch of snow overnight. I don't know what the wind was like but I heard it blow over a sled on the back porch in the night. (sorry no damage shots)
ineedsnow
off topic but I just had two deer jump over my fence and into the backyard they stayed there for about a half hour and they couldnt figure out how to get out so I went and opened the gate that was awesome! NJwinter23
And BTW..where in the hell were the forecasts for winds ripping 50-55mph overnight? i mean the house was shaking for an hour or 2 overnight. They issue wind advisories for 30 mph events and miss this entirely? I guess there was a 60-70kt LLJ overhead late last night as forecast by the nam, but wow at those wind reports...barely gusted near 30 mph for aa couple hours last night down into sw CT and NYC area. How did the old snowpack make it through that? Looked like the dews werent killer, but that ripping wind at 40º couldnt have been a good thing. There actually was a nice crusty layer on top. There's about 6-7 inches left.

HM
I hope it isn't cold and dry followed by cutters after the vortex lifts out Yep. I'll get excited for our area / Mid Atlantic when the MJO crosses into phase 8-1-2 and we get some form of a STJ. The PV displacement is impressive but it is ridiculously strong. The -AO/NAO features are not capable of stopping its northward retreat either. An east-based NAO thumb ridge will not cut it.
ORH_wxman
BAF/CEF/ORE/ORH/PVD/MQE/OWD/PSF were ASOS stations that gusted 40 knots or better. BDL just missed at 39 knots. You could have definitely justified a wind advisory. At least in MA and N CT/RI.

NJwinter23
Sorry HM, I've been waiting for 94 for 19 years....lol. What a ridiculous winter..I know in central NJ it was icy as ****, though basically all frozen in jan/feb (aside from that jan event where it went from 0 degrees to 60 degrees in one day, and early march nor'easter)..The snowfall gradient though was probably about 35" at my house bc of all the sleet/ZR to 65" at Newark..I literally can drive to Newark airport from holmdel in 30 mins flat. Anybody know how southwest CT did during that winter and if that sharop gradient contineud to increase? I know you had like 100" that winter Jerry. lol...Ray has inspired me. I can't wait to relive 94' and 07' and watch you northern folk get rocked while I deal with the cold shots and changeovers. Getting aggressive this AM man!
