OceanStWx
Getting a few really decent gusts now wow...I'm terrible at estimating gusts but probably at least 40 maybe 45? NAM12 actually doing a pretty decent job picking this up right now. Has a nice downslope gust assist in NH tonight, then as mixing increasing later today wind gusts uniformly increase across the area (with another downslope enhanced signal downwind of the western Maine mountains). I didn't really expect this but I guess I wasn't really paying attention much. When I get issued wind advisories, this is the usual wind that I get. But most stations in the area are reporting gusts around 40. Nothing crazy but Kevin's made threads for wind events like that before lol.

It would probably be easier if we were allowed to verify them based on impacts (i.e. tree damage, power lines, etc.). We've got gusts of 40-45 mph in there now, just shy of advisory, probably could have gone either way really.

Probably a lose, lose situation as forecasting often is. It's a tough job.

dendrite
A little snow on the post frontal wave next Tuesday on the Euro for CNE/NNE and then we again flirt with some real deal arctic cold. Sorry for those who hate cold, but when I see near -40C into James Bay I'm wishing that south over my head.

Damage In Tolland
And BTW..where in the hell were the forecasts for winds ripping 50-55mph overnight? i mean the house was shaking for an hour or 2 overnight. They issue wind advisories for 30 mph events and miss this entirely?
Damage In Tolland
This time next week we'll all have fresh snow OTG and looking forward to highs below zero for a day or 2. Hazey
Looks like some folks will make out ok with this ugly pattern we have right now Blizzard warnings for St. John's Nfld. I'm jealous as I'm sure most of you would be. http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/warnings/report_e.html?nl21 Lets hope we can get into some action starting next week. Looks promising. NorEaster27
Yeah I have a fetish for bitter cold. I know lots of people don't like the arctic cold but I definitely do. we really could use the cold in the north country to finally get some solid ice on the area lakes. We actually need the cold more than we need the snow at this point.

They issue wind advisories for 30 mph events and miss this entirely? A wind advisory would not have verified in any of BOX's CT zones. Highest gust was 45 at BDL, and highest sustained was 26 MPH at BDL. Wind advisory criteria is 46-57 MPH gusts or sustained 31-39 MPH for one hour. Davis measured a 44 MPH gust on the valley floor (peak in Sandy was 38) and up on the hill it had to be mid 50s anyway. Strange. Pack down to about 4" OTG. Notable loss, but not close to being gone.
