SquatchinNY
Here is an interesting map. Significant earthquakes in past 30 days. 6 OF THEM That is an average of a significant earthquake every 5 days. EDIT: Go here, and select Significant, last 30 days http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/

HurricaneJosh
Even if there were more than usual, it seems pointless to get sad about it. This is just the earth going through its natural processes-- not just quakes, but also tsunamis, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. We sometimes get in the way of these processes-- but it ain't the earth's fault and it ain't a bad thing. It just is.
Derecho!
Here is an interesting map. Significant earthquakes in past 30 days. 6 OF THEM That is an average of a significant earthquake every 5 days. EDIT: Go here, and select Significant, last 30 days http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/ On average there is a magnitude 6+ earthquake every 2.4 days. There's been nothing remotely unusual about recent earthquake activity, or activity in 2012.
on_wx
I find it funny that the BC government issues tsunami warnings on twitter and only twitter. At least they got their response time down to 11 minutes to send their tweet from 39 minutes after October's warning. Emergency Management B.C. is being lauded for improvements in its reaction time to Saturday’s 7.5-level earthquake, which struck off the coastlines of Alaska and B.C. Last year in October, the emergency service was criticized for its laggardly response to a 7.7-magnitude quake: Their tsunami warnings were issued 39 minutes after the U.S.-based West Coast and Alaska Tsunami and Warning Center sent out their advisory. But on Saturday, only 11 minutes passed before Emergency Management B.C. issued a tsunami warning via Twitter, a “phenomenal” response time according to Executive Director of Operations, Chris Duffy. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/british-columbia/emergency-management-bc-ups-efforts-on-tsunami-warnings/article6972950/
