Holy crap. At 00z 2/9, the h2 jet is exceeding 130kts over southern Arizona. That is one heck of a southern jet.

pretty healthy, but still looks primed to cut.

of course, truncation screws this us. Holds back a piece of the vort, and the lead sw gets sheared out. weak fropa with rain.

tell you what, comparing that timeframe with the 6 and 0z gfs runs, look fairly consistent.

Truncation ruins the next wave coming into western Canada, the strength of the system exiting the NE coast, speed of the southern low and interaction with the northern stream under the PV. This is clearly a significant threat, if the large-scale players are similar to where the GFS places them.

btw what has happened today is the most ridiculous thing i ever remember with a raging snowstorm from wimpy barely perceptible wave moving at warp speed through a bone dry atmosphere dumping 4-7" snow in south jersey

That's what happens when people dismiss clippers 4 days out. Granted they don't have a ton of moisture. With the cold air in place .2 qpf can turn into 4 inches of snow with good ratios.

Yeah but give me 2-4 feet or give me death etc so on and so forth.......

Well, that's fine, I guess. If your standard is KU or bust, it's (probably) going to bust. But there's no reason we can't double or triple seasonal totals through the next 3 weeks before winter is over.

I have to find a better way to convey sarcasm I guess.

I'm all for the multiple snow threats over the one big one which was my vague point.

Dr No is anemic next week, likely wouldn't see a single event get over 1" locally, then torches day 9-10 and takes the polar vortex to the other side of the world and there goes February

Good it's  been awful all winter

Winter cancel.............at least until 0z. :deadhorse:

Any NEPA skiers the Poconos got squalled with 3-4 inches of fresh pow pow. Just grabbed the crew from boulder and they had a blast for a few hours.

Nothing like a Friday surprise.

The roads were a mess through it with white outs and closing but the crews are out doing their thing. Very icey

Heard the cut off was around Jim Thorpe

Looks like a thread is needed for sat niight/sun morn...

Tom has the super massive "all Feb 1-15 threats" thread for discussion of the forecast and models.

Its a bit early for an obs thread.

I kinda think he has prevented jinxing by putting them all together, after all look what happened in Cape May today? ;)
