Yeah, it loos like the models are trending more to the Euro than vice versa. Even if it's not 3 to 4 inches of all snow here and there is mixing, this could be a big impact on the roads with the temps being so cold. It might be even worse if there is mixing.

>>I think even a mix of the Euro and GFS could be a big mess here. It won't take much with the cold temps we will have this week to cause a glaze of ice on the roads, and that is all you need here to cause havoc.

I agree. We have seen this before. Still time for things to get wetter. But even just a little bit of snow/ice will cause problems on the roads here with it being so cold.

>>Yeah, a lot of folks are concerned about the low amounts of qpf. If it is all snow, it might not be as bad, but if it is ice it could be a whole other story. Whatever falls is going to stick on the roads fast with the cold we have this week. It doesn't take that much ice on the roads to cause havoc.

Mix a couple of inches of snow with sleet and freezing rain and it's going to be major trouble on the roads.

Brick works for the NCDOT, right?

Any updates for the Upstate?

Just a friendly reminder to keep "backyard" questions limited to Banter...

As far as Upstate SC - I don't expect anything but possible cold rain (little at that).  This area is not situated well for the type of passage this system is running.  You may see a few sleet pellets/flakes or the dreaded freezing rain, but I fully expect the precip to be given the rubber glove treatment by those hostile mountains.

Getting enough qpf over those elevations is like trying to pass through US Customs with bulky pants and a passport reading your last location as Colombia SA.

Looks like we are going to torch for much of next week so whatever this storm brings you better enjoy it as there won't be much in the near term and it will be on to February.

What kind of torch are you referring to?  I didn't get a warm fuzzy that next week would be warm or fuzzy - with a day or two exception.

In fact - It seems the CFS and E. weeklies may have scored somewhat of a victory when they progged weeks 3 and 4 of January to be cold.

No, just thought the hunt was a new SE Forum trending activity. With winter fading fast, Sasquatch sighting maps may be all we have to share until hurricane season starts. :)

Well, if you happen to spot the Bavarian Bigfoot up near Helen, let me know ASAP.

He likes pretzels, funnel cakes and beef wurst.  They say he smells like cabbage.

BTW - if you have one of these "sighting maps", please share.  For science......and stuff.

If he's holding a cold beer, I might marry him.

I thought we might each contribute a recipe for Dsaur's new cookbook, "100 Main Course Moles - they're not just for precip any more."

If things keep trending better... I might have to go "ICE" chasing Friday in North Georgia. Fortunately, I already have the next two days off and was looking for something to do....  Why not do something I've always wanted to do!

I could head up to ATL tomorrow to stay with my brother and figure out where my best chance of seeing something frozen would be.

Now... to learn how to drive on ice. :yikes:

Uh.... you DON'T drive on ice! There is no driving on ice unless you have chains or studs. I remember years ago I was sitting on a hill, dead stopped on black ice. All of sudden I started sliding... there was nothing I could do. It's a pretty helpless feeling when you're moving and you have no control over it.

But hey, c'mon up anyway!

You learn to drive in snow. You learn to pray on ice.
