Jon
I think it will dry out for at least 1 week if not 2 weeks. The skies need to heal here. How do skies heal? Please enlighten me.
Bevo
Oh yeah man. I totally know you know that. I'm talking to Mr. I complain even when I get snow. The truth is, he wanted to believe the higher totals, so he did. Now he's disappointed, even though there were many trying to protect his little snow heart yesterday. So what he does now is fall back to blaming two people for his misery, because those were the two he wanted to be right. The truth is - The NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE obviously had reason to issue advisories and watches and warnings, etc...it isn't as if those two Mets (or any other) pulled this out of Uranus (neat trick - ha!). Cold Rain
Seriously? You're already going down that road? It's 26 effing degrees outside my office right now. Your sudden need to begin debating the cold air is like listening to Charlie Brown's teacher. Wa wah wa wah wa wah wa wah. Metallica needs to go back to bed and recover his strength so he can bittercast the rest of the winter with more effectiveness.
Bevo
I know. I guess I just want to believe the models. Last night showed you can't even trust them more than a couple of hours out. The only thing they can show is potential when it comes to snow around here. If it happens and how much is really just a guess unless you have the absolutely perfect setup, and even then there is always something that can go wrong at the last minute. How many times have you been told this though. You act like it's some new devastating revelation. This is the reason I am a model geezer. Still - you should know it by now. Accept it and move on. In fact, see my signature for a good idea on how to deal.

Like I said, they had reason because there was potential. But that potential almost always never works out here and the totals are almost always less than projected. I should know that by now, though. I just keep letting Lucy pull away the football.
Brick Tamland
So what if I and many others do, Brick? Why would that be less important than your stammering desire for it not to be cold and dry? It's not. I just like to talk.
Jet Stream Rider
It's supposed to come next week. Once again, we will see in time. I'm thinking it would be just as well to head for spring though. Maybe I should either just move south, like a tropical island where its not even a concern whether it snows or not. Or go to Montana or Alberta where is not so much of a question. Then again maybe that's why its fun trying to forecast here, you never really know. You want to believe in an imperfect tool you don't understand. You believe in the models by proxy of other people analyzing them for you. If you study them and learn them and understand them, then you'll be able to better know what to and what not to believe. Heck, I'd love to just have some make it snow 2 feet on command. I can believe that if I want to but I'm going to be just as disappointed as you will every time you hear that someone sees snow on a model and then you assume it's going to snow. You've been involved in this hobby long enough to know that the models are just tools. No reasonable person would make a forecast on model output alone. The actual forecast we end up with is much more than a guess, even if it ends up wrong. This was a marginal situation and could have gone wildly different with just a 2 or 3 degree difference in temps. You know this stuff, why people bother replying to you is baffling really. Whatever snow that fell yesterday will melt today with temps in the mid to upper 40s.

The high at Snowshoe Tuesday is zero... that's not regular cold. The arctic blast is real even if your back yard doesn't feel as cold as you think it should. Perhaps you should look at the bigger picture before whining.

Jet Stream Rider
NWS shows a high for me of 32 on Tuesday. Sunny. Thats cold especially with a full day of sun.
WilkesboroDude
Your basing that on?? Climatology. Foothills do not see significant snowfall after 5-10 inches of rain as was the case. It also tends to dry out for a week or two after such large qpf events.

weatherheels
Wilkesboro is right, just look at the skies, They're wounded deeply. It will take time for these skys to heal to a level supportive of snow again, thats for sure

But at least make the distinction that discussing model progs with -20C and hoping for -20C is a lot different than forecasting it. At least there's no sign of a sustained torch anytime soon. Whatever snow that fell yesterday will melt today with temps in the mid to upper 40s. It's still cold. Only twice did I have temps in the 20's last winter. I've had several so far this winter. As far as the snow - yes...I did not see any IMBY. However, I was in the highlands of the SC upstate and did see a little. I'm not bitter however. It turned out to be quite fun. Having the ability to accept that weather can be a child bearing dog and will hose you helps to ease the sting. Of course - and as you will hopefully remember - I was skeptical of any snow south of the state line anyway. It's all in how you communicate it on the forums. People do have the ability to post with a tone that is not a**hole-ish. I'll take seasonal temps in without hesitation.

strongwxnc
The bust level was always at 10 for this area just over the SC line. But yeah, tough but such as is life. NGaWxNerd
I certainly enjoyed the entertainment of this last system. Seasonal to slightly below norm temps on the horizon (Mon-Thurs) then later a little warmup. Perhaps the lull will allow some moisture to to come from the gulf and give us all a little system to get excited about. Until then we can still pick on each other, tell secrets and lies and share our virtual beers.

Maybe ***hole-ish is the wrong word. But you have certainly posted with an aire of know-it-all qualities recently.
