wxmanmitch
I had -5° F for a low here. Coldest since 1/16/12 when I hit -9° F. I wish it would stick around. I hate being at the mercy of an erratic, and at times, crappy Pacific and no negative NAO.

Mr Torchey
One thing I do remember about growing up in the 80s after moving up here from South Carolina was pond hockey. It did not seem to snow much, but sure did seem a little colder or at least more numerous arctic outbreaks, fond memories of day after day lacing them up at out neighbors pond. And, I could never forget my all time favorite snowstorm, April 82?? ouch might be off on the year but I was in sixth grade if my memory serves me correct. I'm not worried about a few days in the 40's with maybe one near
ORH_wxman
i'm starting to get depressed looking at these model runs. hope we see some changes. I'm actually a bit more encouraged than I was yesterday. The torch seems to be getting mostly confined to a 1-2 day period and the longer range has improved quite a bit in the past 2-3 days IMHO. The torch itself sucks, but it doesn't seem like its going to be 4-5 days in a row of +18 departures or anything like the Jan 2008 disaster. It doesn't look like a snow pack killer for most of CNE/NNE and NY State...which is good. we want to keep that around.
Logan11
Whats the big deal about a few torch days as long as the pattern is good afterward? I thought the 0Z GFS had a nice pattern from H240 onwards. I haven't seen the Euro, but from what people are saying here it seems to have improved long term. i'm starting to get depressed looking at these model runs. hope we see some changes. Clinch Leatherwood
Yep I have been Logan11 since I fist went on IRC (even pre our #weather channel) in 1994, on a text interface before Netscape. I took the stupid name from the character on Logan's Run which was a fav. sci-fi movie of mine as a kid. Most people assumed it was connected to Logan Airport. Rick you can just call me sick today. Got in a 5 day vacation before getting sick. Feel awful. Looks like oes continuing out by ptown
ORH_wxman
Coldest night/day of the winter? I doubt it. Rare to have it happen in the first couple days of January. I'll bet we see something colder in the final 2 weeks of the month.

Mr Torchey
Cold and dry sucks. That is all. Easy to take though dews are so low, walk this morning was no big deal at all, its those 30 degree ne wind at 25 days that seem to cut right through me like a knife. This weather is great for getting out and enjoying life, I am positive that all the people who love cold will be out as much as possible today, heading out to grind the axe myself, get out there and enjoy it folks! Best Winter Ever!!!
