Managed -1.8/-8 here at KPIT.  Might lose another * or so before the rebound.  Chilly start--certainly not the worst, but a heck of a lot better than what's being modeled.  It'll be a shame we can't build a consistently deep snowpack this year (only have about 12" on the ground).  Maybe after the torch things will improve.

Just curious for those in CT, does Ryan do that on air?  Honestly not trying to be a wise-a$$ as I know he generally loves weather and is an excellent, knowledgeable met, but I am curious if upper management either directly or indirectly pressures folks to act that way.  Are the majority of faux-met rip and readers are actually doing fist pumps when they see primaries cutting west of Chicago, ear to ear grins with firehose zonal flow?

He gets excited on air and smiley for severe wx, big snowstorms and yes warm weather in the winter

Some real cold air here/. Check out the visible satellite at first light theres oes scud to the east.

The pattern talk...when are people going to realize this winter is :

1. Dominated by change. Often mild but sometimes bitter.

2. Snowy on the intervals

3. No pattern is going to lock in, tons of moving parts that sometimes line up for real warmth and real cold with snow.

Barry Burbank did a great write up saying the same thing more than a month ago that was posted and linked here by others. He's seen more New England winters as a Boston TV forecaster than all but our parents in many cases. So far what he thought would happen is right on.

We are bitter cold now and will torch next week before more snow and cold.

Lol I didn't want to say some of the older posters too. You and Barry are around the same age and I know you've been watching him as long as I have. He's great and I think he nailed his call for this winter.

Happy new year Jerry.

Phil doesn't surprise me. Clear here but out over the bay is black with low menacing clouds.
