ORH_wxman
Yeah nobody is saying cold, but with the trough you at least introduce storm chances. Yeah it has the 850 temps ranging from -4C to -8C beyond 300 hours. Climo for mid January is -8C so those temps are still a bit above average. CoastalWx
you know how you know it's bad? When you're extrapolating out the GEFS at day 15 to bring the cold east lol. Well what I mean is that it already brought a trough in the east, but not the cold. However, it's better than the zonal flow we may haver a few days prior. It's not great at all, but maybe it's one of those things where you just gotta work with the hand that is dealt.
Great Snow 1717
but what does that have to do with winter weather in the northeast? Drought can and does affect weather patterns. I do not think it is a coincidence that much of the US has been in a significant drought at the same time so many areas of the country have have had if not their warmest year on record then one of their warmest years on record.......I think we can both agree that to date it has been a warmer than normal winter in New England. My concern is that the rest of this winter breaks warm and dry.....

The sun's rays simply are not strong enough to create massive Plains ridging like it can in the summer...and furnace the country. Look to the EPO as to why it's been mild. OSUmetstud
wasn't 76-77 a dry winter for the east coast?
CoastalWx
BOX has a year in review PNS. What a torch. LL is going to have a ridge in his pants reading that.
Logan11
It looked more interesting to me when I viewed the 5H maps of the various models. But at the surface they all had zilch. Nothing...maybe some snow showers...the trough still bears watching though.

ORH_wxman
At least Canada remains frigid on the ensembles....something that we didn't have last winter. Just need to get the longwave pattern right for pushing that further south.
ORH_wxman
the trough looks interesting but the airmass looks awful Prob not very good for the south coast or SE areas...but its cold enough for frozen in a lot of areas as long as the storm isn't cutting west which I don't think it would if it ended up forming something. The airmass wasn't very good for 12/27 either, but it produced a lot of snow outside of the coastal regions.
weathafella
The modeling today seems to be speeding the warmth more vs prior runs. Even the d10 op euro suggests that despite being an all out torch verbatim. Canada is cold and a trof is being carved out in the nations midsection. EPO seems to be developing as well

Yeah i have a feeling while some folks are worrying about a 2-3 day period of 40-45 degree wx..we're gonna have a nice little snow event tickle up on us

moneypitmike
Nice wintry day. Cool, windy, and snow blowing. Very sore from sledding--not the sledding per se, but the repeated treks back up the hill. Our hill's a killer, and I guess I'm getting old--well, older in any case. 25.9/
