Well.....very light snow kept falling all evening long...only now looking like it's coming to an end.

Picked up an additional 0.5" over the past 6 hours for final total of 2.5".  Like everyone else I've got incredibly cyrystallized flakes reflecting my deck light and nearly looking prismatic.  Has to be the very cold conditions aiding in the crystal formations.

Nice event again.  Temp down to 14 now.  No wind.  Very peaceful out there.

It had stopped but took the dog out and it was snowing again. Clouds covering the moon, and looking at radar, band of snow has developed.

Yea that band's kept the snow going here lightly. Most roads are still a mess with alot of icy patches and a few of the back roads (including mine) haven't really been touched by a plow truck all day  Looks like maybe 2001kx could be seeing a pretty good burst of snow currently. Those Laurels ski resorts (esp Seven Springs) could have several more inches of Rocky Mountain grade powder overnight given the optimal snow structure (dendrites) and the extra orographic lift.

I missed it...was being lazy and just laying around watching tv..

I did check my security cams and it did pick up around that time but didnt look to heavy.

my total so far is 1.5" so i have picked up .5" since the main storm passed.

GFS and Euro had differing takes tonight on the main system set to affect us in the middle of this coming week and reestablish the cold regime that briefly gets kicked out Tues/Wed. GFS continues to wind up a pretty significant GLC that gives the region alot of rain. The European is more progressive with the front and doesn't have the deep Lakes low. It actually runs a low pressure along the front up the coast bringing the potential of a rain to snow type deal. We could have either scenario, but one should keep in mind this winter has had a pretty progressive theme thus far... which could end up favoring a more Euro type solution as we get closer.

Going to be a nasty day tomorrow across the region. Got to hope for a fast warm up and avoid extensive zr.

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 4 am to 3 PM

EST Monday...

* locations... most of central Pennsylvania.

* Hazard types... snow and sleet changing to a period of freezing

rain.

* Accumulations... 1 or 2 inches of snow and sleet... followed by a

tenth of an inch of ice accretion.

* Timing... predawn hours Monday through early Monday afternoon.

* Impacts... snow covered and slushy roads... then a light

accumulation of ice on outdoor objects and untreated Road

surfaces and walkways.

* Temperatures... warming to above freezing Monday afternoon.

Given what went down just a week or so ago where the cold air held off a "torch" for the most part, the trend this winter seems to feature colder solutions winning out over warmer guidances. Given the timing of this event I'm wondering if a more significant icing event could take place in some areas here.

Here's one thing I have observed in years past.  Many significant ice storms were preceded by very high barometric pressures.  The barometer this morning peaked around 30.60" which tied for the highest pressure of the entire winter thus far.  Regardless of what the models say, I think it is possible that the amount of freezing rain may turn out to be more than they currently expect.  Here in the Cumberland Valley the cold air likes to hang on for a long time even as areas surrounding us are warming above freezing.  Harrisburg could easily be 33 with rain while Carlisle is 31 with freezing rain.

We've just spent the last 7 days continuously below freezing until just a few hours ago.  The ground surfaces are going to take a while to warm up even if air temps rise above 32.  That will only prolong the ZR possibilities.

Hit 35 here about an hour ago and it felt really nice outside with almost no wind.  Now we prepare for the roller coaster ride of the week.
