Mag monday is looking pretty interesting think cold air hangs in enough for ice?

Yea, it will be something to keep an eye on especially up your way. We'll probably go through all the p-types as the warm air and associated overrunning precip pushes up into PA. Ice would definitely be a concern in this setup. We've spent the last week in the freezer so any liquid precip is likely going to ice up on things like the hard frozen ground and untreated surfaces if its within a couple degrees of freezing air temp wise. Don't think there will be a ton of precip amount wise, but you don't need much to cause issues. It should be warmer mid week for the passage of the cold front as the low winds up into the Great Lakes.

Officially here at home now, 2.0" of light, fluffy snow on the ground.  Highly crystallized flakes due to such cold temps.  High temp today only 18.5 degrees, first sub-20 high temp this season and probably first in over two years since I know we didn't have a sub-20 high day all of last winter.

Can anyone tell me when was the last snow storm down in the lsv region that fell with temps at or below 20 degrees?  Did it happen at all during winter of '09-'10?  The last one I can remember for sure was PDII, now almost 10 years ago.

One more question....can anyone who melts down their precip provide their ratio for this event?  I'm trying to determine now many tips I need to manually induce melted snow in my tipping bucket.  My best initial guess is perhaps around 15:1, which for 2.0 inches of snow would be approximately 0.14" of liquid.

Thanks!

Hovering around 2" in HBG. Saw a guy leaf-blowing snow off his car.

sauss, your uncle/brother/whatever must park on 2nd Street!

lol...you're close. 3rd, but not in H-Burg.

also, roads are like a parking lot around Harrisburg. normally takes 5 minutes to get home, took 30. and my wife left Hershey at 415....she is somewhere on I-81 yet.

Traffic is really bad. 322 was shut down for hours and 83S was too earlier. That's a recipe for disaster every time.

Also remind me to NEVER EVER buy a Prius. I saw two spin out making turns from 2nd to State. Two! In 5 minutes!

I haven't had a single problem with mine. Besides, I'll take 45+ mpg over good snow performance any day of the week. It's not like we live in Buffalo.

I guess maybe I was a bit premature in reporting my storm total. It has cleared out at times, with the moon visible.. but fluffy dendrites haven't really stopped falling out of the sky. There appears to be some enhancement working into Cambria/Clearfield counties from a band that is just north of Pittburgh in the NW counties. My storm total was 2.3" but I am now at 2.5" with the extra snow that has been falling.

Roads continue to be snowcovered mainly, and that will probably be the case into tomorrow with the very cold temps. Only 13 here currently.

final amount was 2.6" with a 0.14" liquid equiv.  that makes my ratio a touch shy of 20:1

Thanks, Cashtown!  I need to get my final measurement, but I think it's around 2.2".  My bucket only tips in increments of 0.04" (1 mm) and I estimated 3 tips or 0.12" which is just about perfect for the same ratio.

It's actually still very lightly snowing here with temp down to 16.  My split for today is 18.5 / 11.6.  Looks like we will not emerge back above 32.0 until Monday some time which will have given us about 7.5 days of being below freezing continuously.  That's a pretty impressive stretch of time.

Even if we haven't had "the big one" this winter, it certainly hasn't been that dull imo.
