I walked from the Nittany Lion Inn to my office in the Rider Building, my ears hurt. Although I am almost getting used to it. The 40s will be a decent break.

I remember walking around in -8 or so in Jan 2009 through campus and it was a brutal experience. Hopefully you guys tack on a few more inches, still a good snow cover up there?

Not that great. It got borked Saturday from the mild weather down to patches IMBY. We got that inch or so Monday then a bit last night. It's so cold it remained, but I think it actually sublimated some, lol, instead of melted. Overall though we've had snow on the ground much more than not since Dec 20.

Yesterday's MDT recorded temperatures of min - 11 and max - 21 put the day's average temp of 16 as 14 degrees below normal.  This day alone brought the monthy average down from 4.0 degrees above normal to 3.3 degrees above normal.  Crazy that early in the month we were looking at how much above normal we would jump with the warmup and now we could fall very close to normal by the end of the weekend.

It was 8 at the house yesterday morning so I think MDT has been running slightly warmer the past few mornings compared to the area around here.

(Interesting stat of the day:  In the last 30 years Harrisburg has seen a daily snowfall total of >=6" in January only 8 times.  2011, 2000, twice in 1996, twice in 1994, and twice in 1987)

(Second interesting stat of the day:  In the last 8 years, Harrisburg has recorded a daily high temperature less than 20 degrees only once - January 16, 2009 had a high of 15.  Tuesday's high of 24 was recorded just after midnight and yesterday it briefly hit 21.)

Yeah, it's interesting how December and February are better for big storms than January. Wonder if that is due to big crushing airmasses in January?

I've noticed they've been running quite a bit (up to 4 degrees) warmer too. I didn't break 18 yesterday.
