Guest Pamela
lol awesome dendrites nice and big hours of light to moderate snow left, reports of light snow all the way back through nyc metro and northern nj and lower hudson valley. Yeah Joe...they seem to be headed southeast towards me..hope they hold together...light snow falling here but getting heavier in the last few minutes as another band passed over. TWCCraig
Pretty decent 30dbz band forming over the sound right now. Might miss me the east, hope it expands west a little bit.
famartin
That's actually a very poor sounding for snow: Ideal snow growth is below -10C and that sounding is dry where temps are below -10C. 00z sounding for KNYC shows drying above 700mb but saturation from H7 to the surface, and temperatures in snow growth region generally -8c to -10c which is very good. So low level clouds still spitting out a good deal of flakes given the boudnary layer saturation, some remaining lift, and good snow growth. nzucker
The last band brought me to 3.25" for the storm total. I have 15.25" on the season, which is significantly above average and close to half of my 38" annual average.

Guest Pamela
Don't look now, but there's a heavy looking snowshower inbound. As of 10:05 PM, the snow from today's storm has amounted to 1.8" here so far. This gives us a seasonal total of 5.5"...which equals the amount that fell here for the entire 2011-12 winter...lol. As for the snowshower...it was neat but I don't think I would call it heavy snow at my place because visibility never fell below a quarter of a mile...at least when I was peering out the window... TWCCraig
The north fork did well in this system compared to the rest of the island. No surprise there. Coating here, snow looks like it will come to an end soon. SNE took a nice hit from this.

Would have to say 1.9" here...was hoping to make it to 2, but with the ceiling having come way up and the moon visible through a thin overcast...this one might be over....still, an outside chance a renegade streamer off the Sound could add the needed tenth of an inch... nzucker
In Astoria, I had .3" in the AM, .5" in the PM, for a storm total of .8" Precipitation was much lower in this storm than model QPF, which is the main reason for the low snowfall totals, not temperatures as some people believe...here is actual precip from a few stations: HPN: .18" NYC: .26" JFK: .26" LGA: .26" EWR: .22" Definitely disappointing that so many models were showing between .3" and .5" up here in Westchester, and we picked up less than a fifth of an inch. Good point. The concensus for NYC was about .40", including last nights 0z and today's 12z Euro. Very rare to see the euro bust a precip forecast that bad inside of 12-18 hours. Very rare to see the euro bust a precip forecast that bad inside of 12-18 hours. Just want to add, following the models closely for this event, the ukmet was the steadiest and mainly had .25" of precip for the last 6-7 runs. This model is so good sometimes and so terrible at other times.
nzucker
.4" at LGA .4" at JFK T at NYC 1.5" at EWR .5" at ISP Central Park reporting a trace is a total joke...they clearly got more than JFK as they were reporting snow for a while when JFK was still rain. This always happens with small events and is one of the reason I don't trust Central Park's snow records.
