cyclone77
MLI has jumped 14 degrees in the past 2 hours...at night. This front means business. Sure does. MLI is 8 degrees warmer than DVN. Vis at MLI is at 10 miles, while only 1/4 mile at DVN. Fog showing signs of thinning here. Winds seem to be picking up as well.

cyclone77
This has been fun to watch. Fog now almost completely gone, and the moon and the stars are now visible. Scattered stratocumulus clouds overhead screaming northward.
daddylonglegs
Nothing worse then the fog monster... Cold front will be blowing through here tomorrow....falling all the way below 0F by later in the week... maybe a fresh cover of snow if the GFS is right. cyclone77
DVN jumped from 1/4 mile to 4 miles in the last 20 mins. Warm front at the surface acting like a broom in sweeping this mucky fog crap away.
Geos
Rained pretty good here for about 15 minutes. Few lightning strikes as well. Winds are still off the cold lake.
TugHillMatt
Lol...we can't get the heavy snow from storms here, but we're the center of heaviest rain. Torture. The temps are currently near freezing and my driveway is a sheet of ice. The 6 to 8 inches of now very dense snow also has ice on it. I was thinking that might help to preserve our snow...but not if we get three inches of rain.

Would have much rather had it this summer and seen mostly snow this winter, but I guess I'll take it now instead.

BowMeHunter
more quality thunder this early late January am than we've had all last spring/summer/fall combined.
wisconsinwx
more quality thunder this early late January am than we've had all last spring/summer/fall combined. Not really, we had some good thunderstorms in August, but more quality than we saw in June and July for sure.
Thundersnow12
wouldn't think January looking at this warm front, at 2am too. Impressive.

Just had a real close bolt and house rattling thunder immediately to follow.

A-L-E-K
warmed up so fast the lobby downstairs fogged up because it's colder inside than outside.
cyclone77
Peaked at 58 around 5am. Temp fell back a few degrees since. Some breaks in the clouds currently, so hopefully the sun can launch us deep into the 60s later in the morning. Still no rain here yet, as the rain has avoided us so far. That should change in a big way later today/tonight.
Brewers
Only 41 here but that should change soon. Picked up 0.58: of rain overnight.
daddylonglegs
My front yard is a lake... I need to break out my little pump and spray the water somewhere else. WHen this freezes solid in a day, its going to be impossible to get rid of until the next heat wave...

cyclone77
39F here...lol! We are under WSW right now too! Cyclone- Is your ground frozen? Where is the runoff going? Sure is. There's still standing water from Sunday's precip. Haven't had any rain since then as everything's gone around us. Gonna get interesting later today/tonight if we get the 2-3" the 12z NAM forecasts. turtlehurricane
1.18" of rain in Madison! Had some good lightning and thunder when I was waking up around 7 am. Temperature at a balmy 45 F, now if only we could get the sun to come out. Lots of clouds and fogs giving the day an overall dreary feel so far. daddylonglegs
Interesting... the water is just sitting here... some intersections are about flooded because the water has no where to go. i'll be able to skate in the front yard once it freezes. I'd love a little sun or at least a few more degrees of warmth to zap the remaining ice off the driveway.
cyclone77
Tremendous difference in air mass comparing this afternoon to tomorrow afternoon. 4km NAM has us in the mid 60s early this afternoon, and in the mid 20s early tomorrow afternoon. Gotta love January in the Midwest.
