Harry
Ha! Does anyone remember what happened 35 years ago to the days (25-26th) when a juicy clipper hooked up with a southern slider? Keep dreaming. Would be sweet though.
Geos
-34°C+ 850mb's nose into NW WI at 18z on Monday per the EURO. MNweather is going to be shivering for sure!
Hoosier
Something that hasn't been mentioned is that this air will be passing over an expansive area of D2-D4 drought conditions on the way in. It might not make much difference given that it's the dead of winter but since airmasses of this origin are typically bone dry to begin with I wonder if it may add a little extra oomph and dry it out even more. Or lack of snowcover could lead to steeper low level lapse rates and tap into the drier air aloft?
Thunder Road
Euro also has something wintry D6. The basic surface evolution looks more like the GFS than the GGEM.

Yep fairly decent amounts too probably in the .4-.6" range. Not the biggest storm in the world but with good ratios probably several inches of snow for parts of the region. SpartyOn
Torching it up today. 37 here but the wind makes it feel much cooler.
hawkeye_wx
We didn't even come close to the forecasted low this morning(still sitting in the upper 30s). If the clouds can get out of here within a couple hours(looking iffy atm) we could make another run at 50.

snowstormcanuck
Is it still to early to start a 1/24-25th Storm thread? I don't think so. It's within D7 and there's nothing much else going on.

beavis1729
Seems to be subtle cooling trends on recent model runs. 00z NAM/GFS bring 850 mb temps of -25C to -27C into ORD and -23C to -25C here. Agree. The NWS is forecasting lows of near -30F in northern MN on Tuesday morning...with mostly cloudy skies.
beavis1729
Either that or 1/10/82 when it was -27 at RFD (all time record low there) and -26 at ORD. Yeah...a brutal air mass. Then, it was reinforced a week later, although a bit further east. If you get a chance, take a look at a map of 850 mb temps on 1/17/82. If I remember correctly, a -45C 850 mb contour actually shows up in central Canada...just unbelievable.
Geos
Been really cloudy here this morning, which seems to be keeping the winds down. Sitting at 41° right now.

Brewers
Temp hasn't moved much so far sitting at 42°. Lapse rates are nearly dry adiabatic as the front rolls through, allowing mixing up to 850mb and the potential for gusts around 50mph later. turtlehurricane
Enjoying this last day of T-shirt weather before the deep freeze returns. Cold front near La Crosse now, lower to mid 40s ahead of it and mid to upper 30s behind it. Monday and Tuesday are going to be brutal, highs projected to be slightly above zero, lows could reach -10 F.

turtlehurricane
Temp has shot up into the low 50s again. These torch days seem to nearly always outperform even the most aggressive forecasts. Looks like the GFS overdid the cloud cover today, lots of sun breaking through between the frontogenetic cloud bands. Optimal position in relation to the cyclone off to the north for warm air advection also.
daddylonglegs
Hit 48F... Game over now... Time for reality to come back into play. NWS shows low -8F next week. High of 1F...
cyclone77
Made it to 49 so far. Was stuck under mid-level clouds most of the day. Only a few small piles left in a few areas. Point forecast has our wind chills dropping to nearly -10 by early tomorrow. The main cold front just now entering MSP area, so we should remain relatively mild for another 6-8hrs. EDIT: Just hit 50.
