turtlehurricane
Up to 35 F after a low of 15 F, this sort of freezing and thawing is what destroys the roads. High clouds moving in but still fairly sunny, unfortunately it looks like the next few days will be cloudy.

Geos
Was 20° here this morning. A bit of an over achievement. Definitely had some ice patches in places this morning. About 40° right now with a lowering ceiling.

Just hate (wife loves it) Florida and the next 2 weeks look boring so it would of been the perfect time to kill 2 birds with one stone.

buckeye
that PV is strong as hell....dancing around just north of the border, laying down, turning over, bundling up, doing flips, splitting pieces off and sending them east.... with that ridge out west what's keeping that bad boy from dropping more south across the border? I have a feeling after about 10 dry seasonably cold days, thePV is going to weaken as the westcoast ridge breaks down, the southeast ridge starts flexing , and the first big storm to finally evolve in weeks will be a bowme or mke special. followed by minor cold shot/period first week in FEB...then winter ends...... that's my story and I'm stick'n to it

Hoosier
Looks like a solid 1-2" of rain on the way here over the next few days with higher amounts possible farther south. A lot of this is probably gonna just run off.

Trent
My eyes just popped out of my socket when I saw the NWS forecast of 67 on Saturday. Nothing like +33 departure in the dead of winter. ::
BowMeHunter
still full snow cover on the north facing yards across the street... amazing how much staying power the 3" of snow back on dec 20th has had. That is why wet snow violently trumps powder to me.
Geos
39° and light rain here now. Got a few patches of snow in the shadiest of spots.
cyclone77
Had some light rain on and off all afternoon. Not really adding up to much though. Only 0.04" so far. May see a little light snow briefly Saturday night, but most should stay east. Next snow chances look like late next week or into the following week. Geos
38 F and rain in Madison, glacier slowly melting off, 8" thick now. Looks like most of the heavier rain will fall down this way. It would be something if you still have an inch or more come Saturday morning! 4km NAM keeps it in the upper 40s here tomorrow, lower 40s for Madison. hawkeye_wx
The main slug of moisture with this system is going to miss Cedar Rapids to the east. This system was never going to dump on Iowa, but it really has petered out for us compared to what earlier model runs were showing. We didn't melt much snow at all today so my backyard still has 2-3 inches.
frostfern
I guess I'm feeling a little more positive about the latter half of the month. Models are trending more towards the chunk of bitter cold just north of the border setting up shop. More of a zonal setup rather than strong positive PNA. Enhanced zonal baroclinic zone right across the middle of the US could lead to multiple snowstorms. It's just that the threat of rain or mixed precip will be there as well depending on where the storm track sets up. I'll take that kind of pattern over a major arctic outbreak suppressing everything south though.

I wouldn't be surprised if it survives, might be the most solid ice pack I've seen and the rain isn't exactly warm, only 36 F now. This cold rain might just compress it into an even tougher layer. Also not much sun expected during the period of time it's above freezing.
