If there's a skiff of snow tucked in the shade of a north facing hill then the map will show a trace of snow for a 10 mile radius from that point. Here in the Cedar Rapids area we got nothing at all from the last storm and have bare ground, yet that map shows widespread light snowcover. No way did I have 2" on the ground. lol There is/was a little bit of snow on the ground in western McHenry County and parts of Walwoth County as soon as yesterday. Yet when SE MI had widespread 4-8" snowcover in late December and early January it almoet seemed underdone here with some spotty look of unrealistically lighter depth west of dtw towards ann arbor which wasn't accurate.
