Going to be a nasty day up here on the mountain tomorrow... WWA across the area, .02 of ice here in Sussex.  Hopefully it waits until after the morning commute...

Yeah looks like tomorrow will be messy and dangerous here in the Hudson Valley. Will be a work from home day for me.

That commute to Lyndhurst, NJ on 17 won't be happening lol

Wow, that's a pretty long hike down to my neck of the woods. I hope you don't take 17 all the way from northern Bergen County. That'll add an extra 15-20 minutes to your commute. Feel free to PM me if you ever want to know any shortcuts or info about navigating the area.

Hey BlueSkies... no longer your neighbor.  Interesting fact about the road conditions during the past several winter events up here:  The towns of Vernon/Sussex do a much better job of pretreating and plowing than the road crews in Passaic/Bergen county ever did.  Not that the individual operators are to blame, but the difference is night and day.  I heard the very light snowfall a couple nights ago lead to a pretty big slip n slide event on 17... up here the roads were dry and black thanks to the brining/salting that was done.  Hoping tomorrow morning continues the trend... I guess the larger budget for winter weather preparedness up here really makes a difference.

Moved up here from Hackensack ( wife makes the ride down there every day to the Hospital now for work) and the roads are much better up here ( usually) Part of the reason I think is they do it more up here. Another thing that helps is they started useing brine, that helps ice from forming on the bottom. Also at least in our town is you cant park on the street over night in the winter and when it is snowing or any winter precip

anyway, looks like it could get messy, 17.9  dpt 11 now

Actually it's worse than that- I live in Monroe in Orange County here in NY- so I take 17 all the way - from the ny/nj border to the end at Wall St West. On a great day I can make it in 45 mins- on a bad day it's a disaster. Sometimes I turn around and go back to work from home- fortunately I have that luxury. Worst is when there is an accident and I get routed off through side roads.

Definitely wouldn't mind picking your brain on some emergency routes! Thanks for the offer!

Hey Patrick. You know what's funny? I may be your neighbor again in the not too distant future. It's not set in stone yet, but I MAY be moving to your part of Sussex County sometime in the next 6 months or so. I'll shoot you a PM if/when I know for sure I'm moving up that way. I may have some questions for you about the area.

I could imagine what a nightmare that commute can be. My previous job was on Rt17 in the Ramsey/Mahwah, NJ area. A dusting of snow would turn my commute into a 90 minute + drive. All the construction going on down in my area certainly doesn't help matters at all.

Anyway, hopefully you NW guys can pull out an 1"+ of snow before the change to freezing rain in this nickel and dime winter.

Well Sussex/Wantage is open, Vernon has a preplanned early dismissal. I heard Hamburg and Ogdensburg ae closed. Not happy the schools are open. The brining helps, but here in Wantage, it is the town's crew that does it. The county Roads are not pretreated that way. I may call my daughter out. Ugh, and she has a project due, also. Then, there my husband who's usual commute is to upper Bergen Cnty via 84/17 and such. Not liking that for today either. He could work from home.

Just looked out the window and we got flurries here already. Everyone stay safe!
