7-8 inches already on the ground and then the NWS posted this. I think this is going to be our best synoptic snowstorm in 4-5 years. March of 2008 we had 2 storms with 12+ totals. (None over 12+ since, that I can recall at least)

I don't think it gets any better then this in the WNY region for synoptic snows.

LOW PRESSURE REDEVELOPING NEAR THE DELMARVA PENINSULA THIS

EVENING WILL LIFT NORTHEAST TO NEAR LONG ISLAND AROUND DAYBREAK

THURSDAY. THIS SYSTEM IS VERTICALLY STACKED...WHICH PLACES OUR

REGION IN A FAVORABLE REGION FOR SNOWFALL. A COMBINATION OF A 50

TO 70 KNOT EASTERLY LOW LEVEL JET...AND DIFFULENT FLOW ALOFT WILL

COMBINE TO PRODUCE A SIGNIFICANT BAND OF SNOW IN THE NORTHWEST

QUADRANT OF THE STORM. IR/RADAR TRENDS ARE SHOWING THIS

NICELY...WITH THIS AXIS HAVING A TROWAL-LIKE APPEARANCE. AT 900

PM...THIS AXIS EXTENDS FROM BUF-ROC-SYR. BASED ON REPORTS AND

MODEL GUIDANCE...THIS BAND IS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING SNOWFALL RATES

OF 2 INCHES PER HOUR.

MUCH OF THE HIGHER RESOLUTION MODEL GUIDANCE SUPPORTS THIS...WITH

THE 18Z NAM/12Z RGEM/HRRR ARE ALL DOING A FAIRLY GOOD JOB IN

CAPTURING THIS BAND. THIS AXIS HAS BEEN LIFTING SLOWLY

NORTHWARD...BUT IT IS FORECAST TO STALL LATE THIS EVENING...THEN

PIVOT TO A MORE SW-NE ORIENTATION AND THEN GRADUALLY EXIT TO THE

NE. THIS WILL CAUSE THIS BAND TO LINGER ACROSS MUCH OF WESTERN NEW

YORK...WITH THE HEAVIEST SNOWS EXPECTED TO FALL ACROSS NORTHERN

PORTIONS OF THE FINGER LAKES AND GENESEE VALLEY...AND INTO THE

NIAGARA FRONTIER. EXPECT STORM TOTALS OF 10 TO 16 INCHES IN THIS

AREA.

Wow, congrats. Although, from where I'm at, it's hard not to look at what could have been.

Unlike the reputation, we rarely get decent synoptic events in this region. Nearly every "winter storm warning" busts here...I'd say around 70-80% of the warnings bust actually. So having a forecast come to fruition for once is a refreshing thing to see tonight! A forecast that was spot on! The heaviest snow is literally stalling out over a 50-75 mile wide band across Erie County. Going to be a long night for me! Hope you guys cash in as well!

Oh, yeah. I'm well aware of that. You guys are all about the LES. You've got the same problem as we've got in that storms don't like riding the mountains, which unfortunately means we miss out on some biggies.

Not the BUF band, but looks like a secondary axis of enhanced defo zone snows forming over western Lake Ontario. Gonna be close, but getting into those would be fun. Grass tips almost completely covered which is a sign that we're in the 1.5-2" range.

Yeah that heavier snow over the lake is moving towards the shore!

No doubt that Buffalo band is rockin'. :mapsnow:

Say what you want about EC, they're certainly not unresponsive. Just wish they were a little more proactive. I think it was obvious you were going to see warning criteria snows 24 hours ago.

I'm not bashing EC by any means. Actually im impressed. Phoned, right away they picked up and thanked me for the report. Nice to see they take action when reports from their spotters are received.
