Storms over. This goes in my book as a huge disappointment. I think parts of Texas got more snow than me from this.

Can someone much smarter at meteorology explain to me what happened? All of the models had this storm strengthening and showing a nice deformation band over Maine for much of today. Instead, the entire system fell apart about 2pm.

Cleared snow board at 8am and 230 pm. 6.75 and 5.5 inches with a settled depth of 10.5 fluffy inches on top of 2 or so inches of old glacierized snow. Since the last clearing at 230 it has snow'd at varying intensitys and accumulated 1.2 inches . So grand total of 13.4 inches in randolph, vt at 1420' at 430. Settled Snow depth of 11.5 new fluffy inches on top of 2 inches of crust. Wind is gusty and nice dentrites falling

storm total snow and sleet 6.0 not bad at all maybe we can pull off another 1/2 to one inch of snow with the stuff coming down now

you had a depth of six inches before any compaction? or did u go back and forth there?

once we changed here there was no going back, i know we had at least four inches, could have been four and a half as it was pouring when i got up just after midnight to go check but i will go with four.

What do you think a final total was here? I had like 3.5" at 2am and I think we had maybe a shade over 4" prior to compaction. Also driving up to the center of town today I don't think the 5.5" reported for Shrewsbury is as inflated as I thought...it looked like an inch or so more then I had in a distance of a mile and a half.

imby i never measured more than 3" at any point last night. Yeah there was defintely an elevation component to the snowfall, which makes sense since I think your neighborhood is ~200' lower than the center of town. Also, I think mby was closer to the marine influence / costal front since temps remained between 32 and 33 from 8 pm to 3 am so that can explain the lower total imby at comparable elevation to you (I think you posted some obs around 29/30 ). Anywhere between 3.5"-4" defintely seems reasonable though (5"-6" wouldnt surprise me at the highest points in town, eg. rawson hill off of 140 by 290)

The storm turned into a more elevation dependent event as we got past about 11pm-midnight. It happened quicker than I thought it would. I noticed driving today that lower down about 400 feet def had a good inch or two less...prob also as a result of even more compaction/melting after the flip as well.

was it the precip rates that made this more into an elevation event? Imby it was mostly rain by 2-3 , but it did mix back with snow / sleet from 5 am - 7 am when precip rates were more intense

Yeah, I was just shocked at how large of a difference in just about 200'. It looked like 1.5" more honestly. And we stayed about 32.0 exactly for most of the storm after about 9pm or so.

Yeah, for sure. I think around 4" is as accurate as I can get for a SF total here.

Snow is sticking decently now. Driveway covered, but its still 33F.

Few things make me happier than seeing 10-20 inches in the ski areas, GC, and many areas of New England. Awesome news for the winter dependent economy. 65% of the country has snow cover tonight. Very impressive, the cold coming is also perfect. No rainstorms in sight, an over performer for many of us last night too. What a difference a year makes.

8.0" on my kiteboard. Dunno where the ex was getting her "over a foot" estimate from, but when I stopped by her house I put a ruler in the snow and got 9". Anywhoo ... still snowing a bit I think and the wind is really picking up. I hope power stays on.

LOL dude is that why she is your ex? all this time she thought 4 inches was 8
