Sleet has now been reported about 25 miles southeast of KALB, so that pretty much guarantees that all of the Berkshires must be tainted or will be soon. Still fine out here 25 miles west of Albany, but all models bring our closest brush with taint within a few hours either side oif daybreak before cold pushes back toward the southeast behind the low.NIce conveyor of sorts now seems to be bringing good stuff up from LI and NJ ...N and NNW into eastern and central NY.

Thanks, we ended up with close to 5" of snow before changing over to sleet/rain.

went to bed around ten or so with a good three inches and snowing at a fair clip.

woke up after midnight to a pouring rain with some sleet mixed in. there was at least four inches.

raining stil now looks like snow has compacted at least an inch and perhaps a bit more

i am not surprised about the changeover so fast here. I have always been suspicious of these types of events for big dumps of snow. the snow did briefly come down at a rate of a good two inches/hr during the waa burst. i had thought earlier that day if we had another two or three hours of that heavier snow we may end up with some really big numbers but the warm air would not be denied, not only in the mid levels but at the surface here as well as we are well into the thirties.

when i was out last night shortly before the snow started and we had spiked to just around freezing i knew we were not going to see the high end of the forecasted amounts and there was more of an easterly component to the wind.. sounds like the snow has held on longer north of Northampton as many of us figured it would.

kudos to all the forecasters who were conservative in northern ct on the wsw and to the local tv mets here who downplayed big totals. sure we got a good three to six area wide which was above some local forecasts but to be cautious was the way to go.
