WilkesboroDude
Forecast BUST. Hit the freezing mark and dropping. Roads turning white.
GaffneyPeach
Sleet under the Peach! I'm sure the Highlanders get a chuckle out of me but after suffering that 'infernal' shut-out last Winter this is a bit redemptive. I saw zero frozen precip last year...zero. BIG FROSTY
snowing/sleeting some pretty big flakes roof and deck starting to get white. 33.8 degrees
Met1985
Congrates to those seeing winter weather. All we got was some really good cold rain. Oh well looks like the cold pocket has set up East of the mountains. Maybe we can cash in here tonight when the winds turn around.
WilkesboroDude
Not good when you see rain but its not running off the house. Need better returns to change back over. At least a quarter of an inch of snow/sleet accumulation...ground is somewhat white as well as the roads.
wncsnow
Really pouring sleet now with those heavier returns!!

WilkesboroDude
Now back to snow/sleet. Blacksburg is sleeping on the job. Roads are even slick in town...near the Wilkes County Hospital...and near Tyson where people work the late shift.
HKY_WX
Ground and roads are white here. Sleet continues. Pretty cool.
Turner Team
Now back to snow/sleet. Blacksburg is sleeping on the job. Roads are even slick in town...near the Wilkes County Hospital...and near Tyson where people work the late shift. I agree. They have rain mixed with sleet in the forecast here and we have had a snow/sleet mix here for the past two hours that is starting to accumulate and the road in front of my house is starting to turn white. You think they would at least issue a winter weather advisory just to be on the safe side. Edit: Just switched over to freezing rain.
WilkesboroDude
Special Statement Statement as of 2:06 AM EST on December 29, 2012 ... A brief period of sleet is occurring early this morning... Through 3 am EST... a brief period of sleet may occur across Forsyth... Guilford... Alamance... and person counties... before precipitation changes to rain. At 2 am EST... NWS Raleigh has received several reports of sleet across Forsyth and Guilford counties... some of which was sticking to car tops and grassy areas. Since the ground is still relatively warm... roadway accumulations are not expected... and the sleet is expected to change to all rain by 3 am... precluding any significant impacts. After 3 am EST... expect occasional light rain to gradually increase in coverage.
wncsnow
Definitely right on the edge here in McDowell County, not enough sleet to accumulate much but when it gets heavier it does before washing away

And we just got back to Boone from Morgantown and had a little bit of everything you can think of. Heavy snow, sleet, rain, freezing rain, fog so thick you couldn't see lines on the road, to freezing drizzle here in Boone.

NavarreDon
Congrats to the peeps E & S of the Mnts.! We went over to rain quickly last night. Really happy for those who got winter weather. Looks like we are not quite finished with this yet in the Mnts....from GSP: HOWEVER...BY LATE THIS AFTERNOON...THE LOW LEVEL FLOW SHOULD TAKE ON MORE OF A TRUE NORTHWEST COMPONENT AND STRENGTHEN. AMPLE MOISTURE WILL BE IN PLACE FOR DEVELOPMENT OF SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS SNOW SHOWERS ALONG THE TENN BORDER. THEREFORE...AFTER RAMPING POPS DOWN DURING THE LATE MORNING AND EARLY AFTERNOON...THEY WILL RETURN TO THE LIKELY CATEGORY BY 00Z. THE STRENGTH OF THE FLOW...MOISTURE DEPTH AND COLD TEMPERATURES WITHIN THE MOIST LAYER SUGGEST ACCUMULATING SNOW SHOWERS ARE LIKELY...AND ANOTHER ADVISORY MAY BE REQUIRED FOR THE TENN BORDER COUNTIES FOR TONIGHT. ANOTHER CONCERN FOR THIS PERIOD WILL BE THE WIND. WEST TO SW WINDS WILL BECOME GUSTY BEHIND THE FRONT LATER THIS MORNING AND EARLY IN THE AFTERNOON. HOWEVER...THE MAIN CONCERN WILL BE OVER THE HIGH TERRAIN TONIGHT...WHEN THE GRADIENT TIGHTENS AND H8 FLOW INCREASES TO 50+ KT WITH A FAIRLY STRONG MTN WAVE SIGNAL. WILL PLAN TO ISSUE A WIND ADVISORY FOR LATE THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH TONIGHT IN AREAS ALONG THE BLUE RIDGE FROM THE FRENCH BROAD VALLEY NORTH. Isopycnic
You might be in the right spot? you must have had some breaks in the clouds this evening to be that cold? I had some sleet to start but the warm air invaded pretty quickly. 0.32" of rain.

alhooks13
Some freezing rain to sleet in Jonas Ridge, elevation 3600'. Nothing too significant. Roads appear to be ok. I was here for the Christmas day ice storm in 2009 and don't want to live through that again.
Met1985
Don I have been watching the models and seems like they really want to ramp up the favored areas along the TN/NC boarder counties this evening into tonight with some snow moving back in. Going to be very cold come tomorrow morning also.

calculus1
I'm pretty disappointed I didn't stay awake for this event. I went to bed around 11 thinking it wouldn't amount to too much, but HkyWx's posts say otherwise for my area. I did just find a light coating of sleet all over my deck and on elevated surfaces. It's currently 34 with the ground just wet. Rain gauge reads 0.12 inch for the event.
strongwxnc
Reports of light sleet around last night as I was sleeping. Mby never made it below 36.9 last night. Congrats to those that were able to clam your inner wennie with a little frozen stuff
LiQuiDBuD
Picked up between 1/16" and 1/8" of ZR overnight IMBY. Areas at just a couple hundred feet less elevation just had cold rain it appears. It's been a long time since I've seen any ZR here as we always squeeze out the flakes or rain and nothing much in between.
