nzucker
It was snowing before but not anymore. Nice to see. And this is why I average a solid 12-15" more than you per season. Little events where it only accumulates in the suburbs add up. I'm wondering if the next storm is also a NW storm.
TWCCraig
Storm appears to be ending quick, wouldn't be surprised if this is all said and done before 1am

FreeRain
It will, unfortunately, the entire south shore already transitioned. Only a matter of time before the north shore does. Yup. Just switched to drizzle.
nzucker
Still snowing nicely up here. We might push a little past 1" before all is said and done. A minor event but a nice surprise, and it looks to lead into a more wintry regime.
IsentropicLift
Per the Mt. Holly radar, this will all be done and over with before 11PM. Possibly well before that.
LocoAko
Just about ended here in Jersey City. Nothing accumulated but it was still nice to see wet flakes in the air. As a reminder for the upcoming few storms, the NSSL is looking to collect precipitation reports during events, especially ones like this with lots of mixed phase precipitation and transitioning phases. The links for the free apps are available below. For more information, see --http://www.americanwx.com/bb/index.php/topic/38385-nssl-releases-mping-app-for-ground-truth-precipitation-reporting/ . We long islanders rarely get the chance to see our palm trees covered with snow. It must be glorious up at mount zucker right about now. Just try to stay safe. TWCCraig
I thought the palm trees were confined to LaGuardia... Literally speaking, there's a house in my neighborhood that has several palm trees in front of it, most of them are still alive, though their foliage is yellow, stems are completely green. Just had a band of light to moderate rain move through. Might be freezing rain if the temps are at freezing like the airports are showing.
ag3
Some accumulations on cars and grass in Astoria. Now just very light drizzle.

There are a few species of palms which are cold hardy in this area (I-95 south and east), the Windmill Palm being the most famous as it could handle most winters in NYC... http://www.coldhardypalms.net/palm_varieties.html
Sampson
I thought the palm trees were confined to LaGuardia... Flamingos have actually been migrating north to bask on the warm pastures that comprise LaGuardia. ag3 shoots them with his pellet gun from the side of the Grand Central. nzucker
Looks like a small weenie band might be forming east of ABE. I'd love to pick up another half inch to get to 10" on the season..
nzucker
Should definitely see another period of light snow with the band in Central NJ...surprised this thread is so quiet but it's family time and the focus in on the larger 12/27-28 event now. Pitmaster
Light snow falling still here in Monroe, NY in Orange County - dwindling down but we got about half inch or so. They actually came thru and plowed. So I can officially say I saw a "plowable" snow Xmas eve 2012 LOL I wish we could have all seen a nice snowstorm for Christmas but on the bright side at least it's not 50 degrees and dry. Here is to hoping we all get a good winter going forward. While I don't post too often I do read this site quite often and really enjoy all the analysis and forecasting that people provide. Along with some occasional entertainment. I would like to wish you all a merry Christmas, happy holidays and a great new year!
