12/29 - New Years Storm Threat Discussion

NWS just issued WWA for us here in Liberty calling for a solid 3-5 inch event. Another inch and we'd be at WSW criteria, hopefully, have 6 inches on the ground already, so it'll look nice for sure, start time about 9AM

Would probably need a forecast of 6-8 to justify warning. So 3 more inches. Even higher forecast snow totals would be needed for a 24 hour period. But this event will take place within 12 hours, so lower totals satisfy the criteria.

Local Water Temps:

Buoy 44025 (30nm south of Islip, NY):

Water Temp: 51°F

Air Temp: 39°F

Buoy 44039 (Central Long Island Sound):

Water Temp: 45°F

Air Temp: 35°F

Buoy 44065 (Entrance to New York Harbor):

Water Temp: 48°F

Air Temp: 38°F

This is what's causing the models to torch LI. Also, SST's are running about 1-2°C above average.
