Still just slightly over 9" , it hasn't done much at all according to my brother. As soon as that main slug of moisture past through, the build back of precip wasn't that impressive intensity wise I take it. At this point another 3" to reach a foot might be difficult unless the returns start looking healthier.

rain has stopped in enola... temperatures have warmed even more... decent melting going on already... compact snow depth now only 1"... thanks to everyone for all of the updates and conversation throughout the day and congrats to everyone who saw at least some white today (especially to Wmsptwx for finally getting a decent snowfall :-) )

Pretty fast melting rate in Harrisburg too - about 1.5" pack still but it was insanely easily to shovel since it's melting.

I think we got around 3" of snow ... I never could get a proper measurement and the sleet certainly didn't help. So happy the entire region could get a little snow, and big congrats to the northern guys who really are cashing in!

Hearing a "ping" every now and again...

That is not a true dry slot, that is just intermittent precipitation. The large gap in precipitation over Virginia is a dry slot. This is going to be an interesting few hours to watch the radar.

Well, if it wasn't a true dry slot at the time I asked the question, it sure was a precursor to what was to become. From the time I asked that question, very little (compared to a lot of other areas) precipitation fell.

So the dry slot from Lancaster to Pottsville is only temporary?

Went out to snowblow the grandparents and drove around a little. Roads are all snow packed. Precip had been mixing with sleet at times but it seems to have gone back to light snow now. It was barely sleet at that, more like rimed flakes. Only up to about 7.2 inches as precip rates have been pretty inconsistent the last couple hours. Maybe setting up for a couple more inches as some precip rebuilds around here... got a band lurking down in Altoona ready to come up.

have 7.2 here now, we've been ultra lucky right in town with snow bands, have another one right now. Big flakes, had some of the rimed sleet that MAG saw earlier but that's it. I think the sleet caused some compression because I have .5 on the board I cleaned.

Back to moderate snow here. Since I've been out shovelling and whatnot in it.. I noticed that while this was a pretty dry snow, it seems quite thick. Kind of a sand-like consistency.

looks like the last of the snow may be winding down here...i have 6.5"

overall it was a good storm and im very happy to get 6"+ snow but i did expect it to be

better..i guess it was the dry slot that cut our totals down?

would like to know what the precip totals were but it has to be around .5 or so?

the snow was a fluffy powder so we had to be getting ratios of 12:1 or a little better.

hope this was the first of many snowstorms this year for the central, pa crew.

Looks like the dryslot got in the way of things more than a lot of models showed, but it's typical in a system like this that transfers energy. It's always a crapshoot as to when the primary dies and secondary takes over, and how soon the precip can build back in, or not dryslot at all. Central PA is always a mess with these systems. But still a good hit regardless.

I agree that the dryslot definately did hurt the totals, but as mentioned, with a Miller B, someone is always getting jipped with the transfer. Radar seemed to backfill early, and then started to struggle at which I'm sure helped with some transitioning to rimmed flakes/sleet/ip. On the bright side, looks like statewide gets "freshened up" Friday night/Saturday, as the 0z suit seems to have gotten back to a decent event with those who got the least out of the last storm looking to be in the sweet spot for the next one. While I'm sitting here looking at brown as my snow has pretty much all gone, it was a great storm to track, and at least we have more to "play with" in the coming days.

I very much enjoyed yesterdays event, the last i measured was 2.5". We did have sleet and freezing rain early evening. Our kitchen windows face east and they were a sheet of ice. Woke up this morning to light snow and another 1" on the roadway. It looks like winter!

I'm glad to see some of those higher numbers from the peeps to my north and West..

Now lets move on to the weekend!
