ksstormhunter
My SmartCast Output Update 21/03Z to 22/03Z http://smartwxmodel.net/update.htm Currently showing areas around Muncie, South Bend, Fort Wayne picking up 1-3 inches of snow, with wind gusting between 44 and 46MPH through the next 8-12 hours. Across the IN/OH/MI areas seeing areas with snow potential of 1-3 inches possible, main issue looking at winds across these areas of 44 to 51MPH across the area
DAFF
Some great snow pics in the earlyer posts. The biggest issue with low ratio snow is the way it hardens up with the cold. My advice is to get it moved now before it is too late. So ready for some of our own cannon ball snow. Perhaps with the next system.
Hoosier
Who knows where the low tracked? Over Gary...Chicago? I think ORD had the lowest pressure in the area.

Ottawa Blizzard
expect this to be a crushing storm for parts of eastern ontario and regions N of montreal. ottawa city and east along the ottawa river.... 8-16 inches (20-40cm) depeding on amount of rain/mix precip....right now i would lean less rain/mix, but i would feel more comfortable if the track was 20 or 30 miles eastward....the current track is defintely not classic for heaviest snow in the ottawa city area but the amount of moisture, dynamics being progged unanimoulsy by the models over the region means there will be a period of very heavy snowfall at least for several hours that should pile things up quickly even if there is some mix/rain. lingering snow into saturday could really put this storm over the top. areas up the river from ottawa and into the upper ottawa valley and west of the city into the should have a pure 8-14 inches (20-35cm) of snow. N of the ottawa river and into the ski regions N of montreal, i think 12-20 inches (30-50cm) of snow can be expected. Good to hear from you again OL. I sure wish I was in Ottawa for this storm. If I'm lucky, I might see a couple of inches (5cm) Friday night into Saturday in northeast Toronto as this part of the region can get lake effect if the winds are strong enough. kevlon62
I can't believe WGN mentioned the words "school closing" lol!Fwiw: Corridor of 2" to fall over most of Chicagoland tonight per the RPM. --- I think Kevlon got around to making a snowman in Woodstock! I can in fact verify that we received enough to build a snowman. Frosty got a nice shout out and some airtime and even a live lead-in teaser before Skilling's weather segment. It was a fun time out there with a stop for some hot chocolate at Sbux. I did break into a sweat rolling those suckers and we battled some wind driven stingers walking back but worth every minute! michsnowfreak
After bubbling up to 46F a few hours ago, we have now fallen to 36F with some snowflakes. Rain showers are changing to snow showers from south to north across SE MI. Not every day you say that lol.

DAFF
Was outside a few minutes ago with the dog. Wind is quite impressive out there, even saw a flake or two. This afternoon, the sun broke free from the cloud cover and was gone as quick as it come out. 5 minutes later the sky was black again and pouring with rain. Someone mentioned how this storm mimicked one of October. How many wind storms were there this fall other than remnents of Sandy ? From my memory fall was quiet most of the time. wisconsinwx
While I like snow, count me somewhat happy I didn't have to deal with 20 inches of this thick, heavy cement. If I had my druthers, nice fluffy snow for all, or at least a moderately fluffy consistency. Even 2-3 inches of this paste is decently thick and tricky to deal with. Jonger
At least a foot here in Gaylord... Limbs and trees uprooted everywhere... Expecting 20 inches before its done. Oddly, its way less snow just 15 miles.north of here, but I expect that area to improve tonight. Jon

wisconsinwx
Don't believe it. I should preface that. I would be ecstatic while it is falling, but the aftermath of it might make me think twice to hope for 20 inches of paste, at least over 8-12 inches of pure powder for instance. Amazing that Madison's temp is still 32F, I thought for sure the temp would fall toward the end of this major blitz of a storm.

Nelson
hmmmmmmmmmm 0600 PM HEAVY SNOW MIDDLETON 43.10N 89.51W 12/20/2012 M19.5 INCH DANE WI CO-OP OBSERVER 1.4 INCHES OF SNOW IN PAST 1 HOUR. 12.4 INCHES SINCE 7 AM TODAY. STORM TOTAL IS 19.5 INCHES. CURRENTLY BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. Haven't taken an official final measurement (will do so in the morning) but I'm guessing we'll be close to 20" here as well. My yard is windswept so I'm probably going to have to base the last part of my measurement (after 10am today) on liquid equiv in my rain gauge. I was at 14.2" around 1pm today and I'm confident we received at least another 4" since then.

Thanks and, yes, that's why i'm just going to melt down the rain gauge and throw a 12:1 at it and call it a day. Awesome storm. Like I said before, this eclipsed GHD for me. Winds are still busting ass but the snow is finally done. Some nice returns still showing up on the east side. How are you guys doing over in the mkx area? michsnowfreak
Nice dude. Congrats... Don't stress out so much about getting perfect measurements. Enjoy it. As an avid observer I understand the stresz of wanting to get the perfect measurment, and sometimes the wind does NOT play nice. Andy I did the exact same thing on feb 11. We had 3.9" of easy to measure snow at midnight, then overnight was a windswept mess. Snow board drifted over and all so I used what was in my rain gague and looked at obs to est an inch. How are you guys doing over in the mkx area? Been snowing steadily since it started about 2:30 or so. I will try to wait another hour or two to measure, I would guess 2-3 inches. Congrats, btw. I figured this would be a Madison to Green Bay storm, and it didn't disappoint. Wisconsin always seems to be prone to these heavy snows/blizzards. Seems almost every big storm in the Midwest delivers for someone in the state.
