I took this picture this afternoon in my backyard in Madison. At the time I had gotten about 12-13" Now it's around 15" but it's blowing around and drifting so much it's hard to be sure.

Power has been flickering recently so crossing my fingers it stays on. Still snowing lightly but really windy and a lot of drifting.

I busted...

On my 1" call, I busted.

I figured that would happen...but, still... Also, temps are on the way back up. Got down to 30 during the snow that was falling, and now temps are back up to 33..... go figure

As a side note: Chicago Fire Department, is fighting a huge fire @ 11600 S. Burley, a 3 block long x 200ft recycling center.... With high winds and cold.. Not a good night to fight fire.

Be interesting to see video of that. Firefighter also injured. Hope he's okay and they just go on the defensive.

Damn power's been off about 99% of the time since about 3pm. Hopefully it's on for good this time, but it's still very windy.

Anyway did some measurements earlier. Pretty difficult, but I came up with 3.7" as an average. The snow is VERY dense. Had to be a sub 10:1 ratio for much of the event. One thing's for sure this will solidify nicely into a glacier and be around for awhile.

expect this to be a crushing storm for parts of eastern ontario and regions N of montreal.

ottawa city and east along the ottawa river.... 8-16 inches (20-40cm) depeding on amount of rain/mix precip....right now i would lean less rain/mix, but i would feel more comfortable if the track was 20 or 30 miles eastward....the current track is defintely not classic for heaviest snow in the ottawa city area but the amount of moisture, dynamics being progged unanimoulsy by the models over the region means there will be a period of very heavy snowfall at least for several hours that should pile things up quickly even if there is some mix/rain. lingering snow into saturday could really put this storm over the top.

areas up the river from ottawa and into the upper ottawa valley and west of the city into the should have a pure 8-14 inches (20-35cm) of snow.

N of the ottawa river and into the ski regions N of montreal, i think 12-20 inches (30-50cm) of snow can be expected.

LOT relayed this info on the banding about to move through:

We recently received a report from Machesney Park that as the snow band pushed through, there was moderate snow and very low visibility.

First good band about 18 miles west of here.

Must be nice to always have cold air banked up.
